'Unstoppable' trailer, in which Chris Pine is shirtless and married to Hannah from 'Veronica Mars', who looks waaaaay too young to have a kid that age. Looks predictable, but hey, Chris Pine. And, to a lesser extent, Rosario Dawson and Denzel Washington. I'll watch it.

01. Discuss how you got into Harry Potter
I had heard a bit about it in high school, not much, a few people liked it. I was babysitting one night and the girl was doing her homework and didn't need any help from me. I saw Philosopher's Stone on the table and decided to give it a shot. When I asked to borrow the book to keep reading it once her parents got home, I didn't even want to put it down. I nearly got hit by a car on the 20 minute walk back to the embassy as I tried to keep reading by the light of the streetlamps. That was in Tokyo in May of 2000. I know this because I then begged my friends to lend me theirs and couldn't concentrate on my year 10 Physics exam because I just wanted to leave and read Chamber of Secrets. I had to read Prisoner of Azkaban before I could study for my European History exam, or I knew I'd never pass. Goblet of Fire came out that year and it wasn't the worldwide phenomenon it would become just a few months later yet, so I had to borrow GoF from my little sister's friend when she returned from her American vacation. She hadn't read it yet. I read it in one night.

Go join [ profile] lotr_lims. It's pretty great, very consistent, one of the best LIMS challenges I've done - and I've done a lot.

Real life:
  • Interviewed for the director position I want today. I will be so bummed if I don't get it, seriously. I don't think the interview went as well as it could have, I was tired and not feeling well.

  • Puck isn't letting me get much sleep, but he's so damned cute. He does this little butt wiggle before he pounces on things, and it's adorable. Also, he's quite cuddly. He keeps scratching me, though, mostly by accident - trying to get up on my lap and things like that. I'm covered in scratches.

  • It's really fucking hot.

  • Glee:
  • Go join [ profile] gleeverse, it's fun. It's one of those game communities where you're on a team and you do challenges. I'm on Team New Directions, because clearly the Glee kids are the best.

  • Woo! 'Glee' officially renewed for a second season! I'm sick of seeing "I love Glee, even though it's flawed" everywhere. Quit qualifying your love. 'Chuck' is flawed. Hell, even 'Dollhouse' is flawed. I think there's only three genuinely flawless seasons of television I've ever seen.

  • Casting spoilers. Seems everyone ever in a musical is getting in on the show.

  • New HQ pomro pics.

  • 'Chuck' season 3 premiered strong. I've watched the first, I'll watch the second tonight. It's such a fun show.

  • As linked by Maurissa and others: Commentary!: The Musical’: The Commentary. It's available on iTunes, btw.

  • The Dr. Horrible gang at PaleyFest, talking about making Commentary!
  • Scott Allie explains the accidental reveal of Twilight from Buffy Season 8 (MASSIVE SPOILERS). I'm actually really relieved, because for a while there it looked like it might have been someone that would've made me much more upset.

  • Bradley Whitford talks 'Cabin in the Woods'.

  • The Truth About Dollhouse's Evil Mastermind: his name is Tim Minear. Kidding. Kinda.

  • Seven Stories Concerning Joss Whedon - or - The Road to Damascus.

  • 'Firefly' to live on in new book of short stories.

  • James Gunn's new movie 'Super' will star Nathan Fillion, Linda Cardellini, Rainn Wilson, Liv Tyler, Ellen Page, Kevin Bacon and others and looks...well, weird. I mean, it's James Gunn.

Stacks of new promo photos from 'Star Trek' that are AWESOME. They're the base images for the amazing posters!

    [ profile] gqmf_awards is an off-shoot of [ profile] ontd_startrek and it's kinda awesome.

Spider-Man 4 Scrapped; Sam Raimi & Tobey Maguire & Cast Out; Franchise Reboot for 2012. Um. WHAT?

Very entertaining trailer for 'The A-Team'. If you have a problem and no-one else can help you...get Bradley Cooper shirtless. Hey, it won't solve your problem, but you'll probably forget about it for a few minutes anyway.

OMG NEW 'GLEE' TOMORROW!!! WHEELS! I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THIS ONE! 'Dancing With Myself' from the ep is really good. Really, really good. I can't WAIT for lots of Artie and Kurt.

Check out [ profile] zombres's NaNoWriMo blog cuz it's awesome.

Go vote at the People's Choce Awards. Or the Idiots' Choice Awards, because there's not a hell of a lot of actual choice. I'm annoyed at the lack of an Enterprise crew nod in the "best team" category, okay? At least it's nominated in "best film" cuz it IS.

I love Firefly so much. I can't figure out how Zoe isn't everyone's favourite.

"Take me, sir. Take me hard."

Also, observation about Trash: It's pretty much an episode where all the action is run by girls. The villain's a girl, and the girls save the day. Love. Also, YoSaffBridge is awesome.

    Green Queen
I love Firefly so much. Also, Simon is enormously underrated as a character. He is totally my favourite this time I'm watching, except of course for Zoe, who always, always wins. I also love YoSaffBridge. I'm only halfway through and already I'm feeling the sting of the cancellation, and the end drawing nearer. It hurts even more now that Pushing Daisies has been cancelled. I think a mark of a show that really has an impact on a person is how many times they go back and watch it after it's finished. Firefly's a bit different since I only discovered it after it was already cancelled, but I watch it so often. I have a feeling Pushing Daisies will be one I'll keep coming back to as well. Not fair!

I had a birthday party last night! It was for me and Mitchell, it was wonderful, and my friends gave me $410 for my conventions! Not bad, considering there were only about 10 people here. Photos are already up on Facebook, I might post them here later.

Back from my weekend with the family. My Nana's health is pretty bad at the moment, they don't know if she'll get to go back to her retirement village, which she isn't too thrilled about. She's sharp as a tack, though, and getting fed up with all the dementia-addled people in her ward. I ate a lot, which seems to happen often when I'm staying with family.

I'll do a proper post about the con later, but I have some news about Shepherd Book's past from the upcoming comic I thought you might not have already read about.

    1. Book found God in a soup boul.

    2. Something about Book is artificial.

    3. Book's greatest victory was his worst defeat.

    4. Book took the name of someone he killed.

The comic will be called 'A Shepherd's Tale', according to Ron Glass. Are we excited yet? And yes, he still scares me.

AHAHAHA MOST BRILLIANT THING EVER. Doogie Howser parody on HIMYM. I'm half-tempted to watch that show just for him.

Torture in the 'Verse - an interesting essay on eroticised male torture in the Jossverse. I wouldn't really call Niska's torture eroticised. I think Niska may have found it erotic because he was a total power tripper, but I don't think the audience was meant to find it erotic, unlike some of the other torture scenes on Buffy or Angel.

Groundbreaking Gays. American only, and the list

In more gay news, a Gossip Boy is about to come out. I don't watch that show.

I assume everyone's heard about this? A Rapist's View of the World: Joss Whedon and Firefly. This is the kind of person I want to shake and yell 'YOU'RE MAKING MY SIDE LOOK BAD!' at. It's all misandry and bullshit, and she's deleting comments she doesn't like. Accusing Joss of raping his wife is so far over the line as to be in another universe.
Discussion here, and she wrote about the reaction in her other blog here (with only the worst comments quoted, and all the rational comments in her journal - of course - deleted, to make Firefly fans look like a bunch of crazy woman-haters.) Probably only a matter of time before it shows up at Fandom Wank. Of course, it has created a widespread 'THIS IS WHY I'M NOT A FEMINIST' response, implying that all feminists = extremist nutcases like this woman. Way to set us back.

I know this is naughty of me, and I'm aware of the whole 'the world is male space' view, but I still found the Firefly = misandry post entertaining.

Pro-Faraday icons. Because everyone loves Faraday. (Seriously, I know I'm biased but I don't think the Lost community has ever taken to a new character this fast before. He has superhuman levels of lovability.) MOAR hilarious Lost icons.

A tiny bit of information about Dollhouse to tie in with those sides. I'm linking to the Whedonesque post because I had trouble accessing the link, so you might too.

Essays on Firefly & Serenity that I plan to read and that make me want Serenity Found again.

Lovers, Liars & Lunatics will be screened in San Diego and Texas; Amber will be in Texas. It's a cute movie, you should go see it if you're in the area.
