1. My house was broken into today. They took about $40 in 50 cent coins and a broken digital camera. They also broke a window lock and chucked a bunch of stuff out of cupboards and drawers on to the floor. I'm not particularly stressed or upset about it.
ETA: Just realised they took my camera. Oh well, I got it for free. Easy come, easy go.
2. It's storming outside.
3. I started my new job as director of the before & after school care program I've been working at for the past forever. We were mostly just doing some office stuff today, but it was pretty exciting.
4. Puck has gotten so much bigger. He is now into protecting me from terrible dangers, like the pages I'm trying to staple together, or the sheets I'm trying to change, or my camera cord.
5. It was my sister's birthday yesterday and we saw two movies. She MADE me see the second one. Like, "it's my BIRTHDAY and you HAVE to see what I want!" made me. NOT MY FAULT.
Bran Nue Dae
'Bran Nue Dae' is an uplifting Australian Indigenous musical. I didn't know such a movie could exist in the current Australian film industry, but I'm reeeeeally glad it does, because this movie is AWESOME. Even bearing in mind that I am incredibly biased, I loved this. The songs were cute and catchy and occasionally meaningful, Ernie Dingo was fantastic, and it was such a sweet, funny movie. It doesn't ignore the problems facing the Aboriginal people in Australia, but it celebrates the people and their spirit. It's based on a fairly popular stage production, but the adaptation to film is fantastic, not least because of Andrew Lesnie's gorgeous cinematography (I don't think the real Broome looks as beautiful as the one in this movie.) Rachel Perkins does some very clever things with the musical numbers so that they all feel fresh and different. I love Geoffrey Rush and Deborah Mailman in scenery-chewing, fun roles. If you get the opportunity, go check this out! It's the perfect antidote to the recent wristcutters of Aussie film.

New Moon
Awful. I felt simultaneously suicidal and homicidal. This isn't even bad enough to laugh at, it's just painful to watch. The characters are such boring, lifeless drones, and that's the supposed humans. The dialogue makes me wish I didn't have ears. If it were possible to go back in time and kidnap myself just to stop myself seeing this, I would. I hate Stephenie Meyer. I hate Bella and Edward. I hate myself for not digging my heels in and refusing to see it.
I think, if these books and movies were about Alice Cullen, they might almost be good. Alice is the only character with spunk and life and a personality in the whole series. She's also clearly the hero of the stories - nothing happens without her, and she swoops in to save the day about a dozen times well everybody else falls over their feet making the world revolve around Bella, who just expects all the attention (oh, woe is me, people care about me and want to celebrate my birthday! Oh, woe is me, two supernaturally attractive men are madly in love with me!) Speaking of which, why are the men such creepy stalkers?! HATE. KILL. AUGH.
0 out of 5. That's being generous. I would give it a negative score if Alice didn't exist.
