01. Discuss how you got into Harry Potter
I had heard a bit about it in high school, not much, a few people liked it. I was babysitting one night and the girl was doing her homework and didn't need any help from me. I saw Philosopher's Stone on the table and decided to give it a shot. When I asked to borrow the book to keep reading it once her parents got home, I didn't even want to put it down. I nearly got hit by a car on the 20 minute walk back to the embassy as I tried to keep reading by the light of the streetlamps. That was in Tokyo in May of 2000. I know this because I then begged my friends to lend me theirs and couldn't concentrate on my year 10 Physics exam because I just wanted to leave and read Chamber of Secrets. I had to read Prisoner of Azkaban before I could study for my European History exam, or I knew I'd never pass. Goblet of Fire came out that year and it wasn't the worldwide phenomenon it would become just a few months later yet, so I had to borrow GoF from my little sister's friend when she returned from her American vacation. She hadn't read it yet. I read it in one night.
