JJ Abrams locked in to direct the next Star Trek. I SENSE MORE FLARE IN OUR FUTURE!

I never did review the last movie I saw on Sunday, Morning Glory
My experience of this movie seems to have been different to other people's, and for once I skew more positive than the general public. I thought it was bubbly and cute, and I liked that it wasn't the usual sexist romcom drivel. The female characters in this movie were great, and while it's nice to see Patrick Wilson playing a good guy for once, it's also kind of cool that he's TOTALLY the girl in this movie - a barely-there romantic interest who mostly exists to be pretty and supportive. Rachel McAdams drives the movie with her charm and determination, and Harrison Ford grumbles along amiably. I can't watch Diane Keaton the same way after the awfulness that was Surrender, Dorothy, but she was okay. Basically, as far as "chick flicks" go, this is one of the less offensive ones.
There's a reading of the film that it champions silliness over intelligence, drivel over content; I think the entire point of the movie was that there needs to be a balance between the two. There's a way of showing people quality entertainment and educating them while also not taking yourself too seriously and having fun. It's possible that watching a lot of non-West Wing Sorkin lately has affected my viewing of this movie, because I'm so used to watching this style of thing - the writing quality isn't exactly Sorkin level, admittedly, but it has that manic behind-the-scenes sensibility to it that's so much fun to watch.
It's not exactly memorable or brilliant or anything, but it's fun.

I saw Morning Glory in the theater with a friend. Seems like it was about a year ago. We both love Harrison Ford a little more than is reasonable given his current grouchy old man status but he will always be Han Solo to us. I liked the story but found it to be a bit "cute". Not bad, just lightweight.
When Darren has glasses and curly hair and a couple of days growth on his chin, he looks like my nephew. Then I realize I'm too old to look at pictures of handsome young men.

I love men with beards
But Darren and beard....not so much.
