I have a brand new hat.
It is brown and suede-like and warm and cost me about $20 which I don't really have but I desperately wanted a hat. So now I'm broke again. I went to see Two Towers at uni tonight all by my lonesome which was fun, I could whisper the lines to my heart's content and nobody got pissy with me.
I got to perform Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in my Play Into Film tute today. I was Rosencrantz (Gary Oldman's part), natch, and it went really well. I had to admit in class that I had only gone to see the movie for Gary because I knew he was playing Sirius and was therefore biased on my opinion of the movie. Then I had my German Cinema tute, came home and went to TTT. That's about it really.
Well, I was completely and utterly spoiled by simply knowing that Illyria existed. That said, it was a truly excellent episode, and the sequence of placing it after Smile Time was inspired--the raw emotion of this episode against the pure comedy of Smile Time worked nicely, as did the threads of Gunn and the relationship between Wes and Fred. Has anyone noticed some repeted themes in Buffy and Angel though?
For instance. Fred and Wes got back together, then Fred 'dies'; Will and Tara get back together, then Tara dies.
Mystical powers taking over the bodies of Angel girls.
Gunn killing people, and what the hell is up with that? I find him so unsympathetic this season it's starting to bug me. Okay, singing "3 little maids from school" and then trying to be all gangsta rapper was very cute, but otherwise he's just annoying me. I liked Lorne getting all kick-ass, he's still my favourite on that show (with the exception of Harmony, notably missing from this episode) and watching him do his thing was fun.
The scenes between Fred and Wes were surprisingly good, I usually don't go in for that kind of thing but I thought Alexis and Amy played it really well, even though the music was a bit overbearing. I LOVED the cavemen/astronauts thing and how it played into the theme of the episode so well, as well as all the brilliant Spike/Angel interaction. Spike stabbing Angel to kill the bug was *hilarious*. And I still like Knox, even though I've known for ages he was going to be bad (gee thanks Tom :P) and was most put out that Gunn killed him, to be honest.
Overall, I would say this is one of the better Angel episodes I've seen, but I can't honestly say I've ever really liked Fred. I didn't dislike her either, though, so it worked very well, and the whole idea of Illyria is brilliant (she looks good, too.) Spike in particular was very touching :)
