Yesterday I watched My Cousin Vinny

How have I not seen this before? Ralph Macchio!!

Also, it's just a really good movie. It's funny and genuine, with comedy that comes from the characters rather than from trying to force a laugh. Marisa Tomei and Joe Pesci are both terrific in it. They're so comfortable in their characters and with each other, it feels absolutely like they're real people. There are frustrating characters, but they're frustrating in a real way. I kind of feel like Ralph Macchio's friend lets the side down a bit by not quite living up to the other people in the movie, but it's still fun and engaging, cute and clever.

Today I watched The Station Agent

So Peter Dinklage is a total powerhouse actor, we know this, and this is his breakthrough movie. So I was expecting probably more of it than it was going to deliver. It really is very...Sundancey. The feel of it is all that sort of light verite-but-not-quite cutesy style. It's anchored by terrific performances - I loooove the central trio of Patricia Clarkson, Bobby Cannavale (who is so adorably optimistic I want to pinch his cheeks), and Dinklage - but the message is, you know, people forcing an introvert into the world and embracing life. Shocker.

Tonight I watched Moneyball

I think the reason people are so impressed by this is that it's a sports movie that isn't really about sports but business, and it manages to be interesting in spite of that. Again, terrific performances - Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill are both pitch-perfect - and there's a really nice flow to the script. I looove the editing and sound and a lot of the crisp, clean look. I'm not a huge fan of the intercutting of real footage from the time, though - I found it more confusing than helpful a lot of the time. It went on a little bit too long, and Philip Seymour Hoffman is really just phoning it in. I did think it was interesting, and informative, but I felt like...it could have been more.

How have you never seen My Cousin Vinny?? I've seen it like 20 times. It's one of those movies I always stop on if I find it when flipping channels. Marisa Tomei is so fantastic in that movie! It's just so damn funny.

I'm surprised you hadn't seen My Cousin Vinny before. It seems like a right-up-your-alley kind of movie! I'm glad you liked it.

Darren clearly has no problem getting his picture taken. I've yet to see one where he looks cranky or out of sorts.
