You've gotta respect a man who can fit 7 Tim Tams into his mouth, and does so on national TV.

And anyone who can sing through their nose, because that's just bloody cool. But not Delta Goodrem, who is simpering and talks faster than normal humans. Oh, and by the way, I think Seth is possibly the most quotable person on television.

Was called into work this afternoon and missed lecture to go, will listen to tape when I watch movie. Eventually.

Also had a meeting with FABRIC (Family Based Respite Care) and as soon as the police report goes through I will officially have three jobs. They'll just call occasionally though, and it's mostly for stuff like taking disabled kids to movies or generally 'babysitting' them rather than doing therapy like with Luke.

FANFIC AUTHORS' APPRECIATION WEEK March 6 through March 13:
Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.

[livejournal.com profile] synchronik is my favourite author ever. His stuff is at Joe's Eats and Christian Bookshop.

Link of the Day is Val's Naveen screencap page because it has awesome screencaps.

Pics of the Day - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince UK cover art:

Once again, Mary GrandPre has outdone herself and produced a far superior cover to the UK one. This only really started with the fifth book - for GoF they were about equal, but since then Mary's simplified greatly and benefitted from it. Looks lovely and interesting. Much more interesting than Harry and Dumbledore over the pensieve to me, however, is the advanced potions. Discuss.

ETA: OK. That's not a pensieve.

I doubt there are many people more excited about this book than me. I have arranged my holiday to Japan in order to be in Australia when the book comes out.

Oooh. Love the third cover, but I'll have to buy the second one, because my other books are in that style, andI hate to have different editions.

Advanced potions, hmm? I didn't ecpect that...and it must be quite an important plot point, if they have put that on the cover...but I'm terrible at guessing, so I won't even try...

You have the most amazing HP icons...this Hermione one is great! I watched a bit of the Philosopher's Stone yesterday, and I couldn't help but notice again how Hermione is my long lost twin... ^_^

That sentence was much more interesting how I read it: Joe Eats Christian Bookshop!

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Yeah, I reckon I'm going to end up getting the first two again.

LMAO this icon cracks me up and has become my most used HP icon along with Ron's Evil Rat.

From: [identity profile] framianne.livejournal.com

I'm not going to buy them all again. I'm not.

Can't wait for the book to be out...I think that after graduation I'll read the others again while I wait!

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I'm once chapter away from finishing them all again, then I'll have to start over in June to be ready!

From: [identity profile] framianne.livejournal.com

I have bought the English editions this summer and I've read them only once so far, so I really want to read them again!
The Italian translations are just too horrible...I find it hard to believe that the translator was paid for that piece of crap!!

From: [identity profile] truffle-shuffle.livejournal.com

Oh. My. God!

I may be in a tie for you on the excitement over HBP. If I were going on vacation, I'd schedule mine around the release of the book too. lol

Man, those covers! I really love the UK Adult cover (as I do all of them, and so desperately want copies of them all but they cost so much to order from the US). I love love love the first cover (is that the US cover?) and I think the second one (UK?) is interesting as well. And look how much older Harry looks!

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

The first one is the US one, the second the UK. He does look like a 16 year old, it's good, I noticed that too. I prefer the mystery and subtlety of the US one to the garish agressiveness of the UK one. I got used to the British OotP one, even though I still think it should have Harry on it.

I bought a US and UK of OotP, I may do the same with this one. And eventually I'll get all the adult versions, because they're beautiful.

From: [identity profile] truffle-shuffle.livejournal.com

I'm sure, knowing me, that eventually I'll have copies of at least all of the US, UK and UK Adult versions. Because I am obsessive. I love a lot of the covers from other countries, too. Russia has really interesting ones, as do Germany and Japan. But the chances of getting those are slim. I mean, I wouldn't be able to read them, so what's the point, except to have a crazy collection of as many versions of the books as I can get?

Maybe once I win the lottery. lol

I really love the colors in the US version of HBP. I find it interesting that it has Dumbledore on the cover of both the US and UK versions. He must play a much larger part in this book than he did in OOTP.

This all is doing nothing for my patience. Can it be July 17th now?

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Me too. I've already got US and UK versions of 4 and 5; UK, Japanese and commemorative versions of 3, and French versions of 1-4.
I think it's the German ones that are my favourites. The Harry with his tiny wire glasses in the foreground, right? I love them. The French covers are just plain ugly. The Italian cover art is...obscure.

I don't like the purple on the text of the US cover, but I like the rest of it.

I reckon Dumbledore's going to die. I've thought so for ages, but now....

From: [identity profile] rambling-roses.livejournal.com

Being only able to buy the UK versions, I am disappointed. The US one is lovely, though it reminds me so much of the Mirror of Galadriel scene in LOTR. And now I shall start imagining Dumbledore as Galadriel, which I could do without :p. But I love the swirly mistiness.

Interesting to see the angry!Dumbledore on the UK cover.

From: [identity profile] sparcck.livejournal.com

How do we know it's not a pensieve? *thick*

From: [identity profile] shes-unreal.livejournal.com

Ha, I've thought that since book 1 or 2, what with so many people going around saying stuff like, "As long as Dumbledore is here, you're safe," yadda yadda.

From: [identity profile] beizy.livejournal.com

*jumps in* I'd say, just speculatively, that it's too...stationary and stone-like to be a pensieve. At least, the pensieves we've seen are bowls, easily movable and kept in cabinets. This looks sort of like it's been sitting in one place for a long time. But, hey, it could just be a different sort of pensieve.

From: [identity profile] wildaboutharry.livejournal.com

I can't really make out the edge of the bowl but those look like they could very well be runes to me... around the edge and we know the edge of the pensive has runes etched around it.

From: [identity profile] truffle-shuffle.livejournal.com

I do like the purple text, but then, green and purple are my favorite colors, so it's like it was catered to me. Haha.

You may be right about Dumbledore. Which will just be heartbreaking.

im literally SHAKING with anticipation. too bad the american covers always look like shite..i've always been more fond of the uk ones.

From: [identity profile] minyafalas.livejournal.com

All of my HP books are of the second style. I don't like the cover for the second style... *sigh* And I don't want to ruin my HP book collection by purchasing the 'odd one out', so crappy book cover here I come! O.o

♥minya

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

From what I can tell from the books, pensieves are movable bowls rather than on stationary pillars.

If it IS a pensieve, I don't think it's Dumbledore's. Maybe an uper-pensieve.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I'm probably going to get both the US and UK and then get a box set of the adult versions after the 7th book comes out.

From: [identity profile] kijikun.livejournal.com

I just want more of the cavans of the covers to go with my 1-3.

and i could not agree more with you.

SATURDAY!! *g*

From: [identity profile] sapphires13.livejournal.com

Ok, I'm saying that's totally a pensieve. My immediate reaction when I first saw the cover was "OMG A PENSIEVE!".
To me, it doesn't look like it's attached to the pedestal, merely sitting atop it. And that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be sitting atop a pedestal in the book, it may've just been drawn that way, as opposed to on a desk or table, so that what's behind it, or *not* behind it would be more visible. Anyone else notice that the bottom halves of Harry and Dumbledore's bodies seem to be missing? Perhaps they're being sucked into the pensieve.
Also, I really hope it's a pensieve, because if it is, it really supports the theories I have about the books. And I really hope my theories are right, because if they are, I get to gloat it over the people that don't believe me. Heeheee.

(I wondered over from CleoLinda's journal, by the way)

From: [identity profile] mambaramba.livejournal.com

Major squee! And kinda sad, I found out about the new covers here and not from mugglenet. Guess the lack of news has left me not checking the sight as often as livejournal.
But on the upside, Harry is getting to be quite the hottie! I really like the adult cover but my collection is all of the US so that's what I'll be purchasing!

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I've got The Leaky Cauldron as my home site, so I check the news every time I open a window :)

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

That's all well and good but I didn't know CleoLinda even knew about this.

Word spreads fast on LiveJournal!

Miss Cleo hears all, sees all, knows all.

(is also here from Cleolinda's journal)

From: [identity profile] alita-b-angel.livejournal.com

Also came here following the white rabbit named Cleo. I have to agree with the Dumbledore is going to die predictions, mostly since the 2nd cover CANNOT be more LOTR even if they tried. The pose just cries YOU SHALL NOT PASS + flames and handy Harry!Hobbit. So much squee for the third since it's simple, though spoilery. That text book gives away Harry's Owls and hints so so much at a great role for Snape. Yeay. Never really liked the UK covers. Might buy the third one this time if I can (though the 2nd always comes out first Down Under). Dammit, now I'm all excited.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Have you ever managed to find a US cover down under? I get mine sent over by friends for cheap from the States. I'm thinking of doing that again this year.

I'm waiting for a box set of the adult covers.

From: [identity profile] autumnroyale.livejournal.com

*is also here from Cleolindas journal*
I agree with many people on many counts... hehehe. Especialy re: Tim tams and Seth... apart from being hot, he's incredibly funny!
So how many people here are from Australia?

From: [identity profile] newbia.livejournal.com

I think the thing is a pensieve, because there appears to be markings around the corner. Of course, a lot of magical things have magic words enscribed around the edges.

I just love the photo cover. The only thing the illustrated covers have over it is that the words themselves are boring--just plain text, and I hate it when the author's name is put above the title. I like it to be sitting quietly on the bottom, not bragging and big at the top.

The second one is my least favorite, a bit too actiony. I spotted something leathery in the corner, do you think it's a dragon?

From: [identity profile] mambaramba.livejournal.com

Smart! I tried having something other than myyahoo as my homesite, but I was lost without my horoscope telling me what to do every time I opened a window! Hmmm....TLC/mugglenet horoscopes....

From: [identity profile] rambling-roses.livejournal.com

It could always be a special Ministry pensieve, used for interrogation or whatever. It looks fancy enough.

From: [identity profile] pesciolina.livejournal.com

The German versions are simply the best ones. Harry looks much more clever (and sexy :) on them. On the UK and US covers, he seems so... I don't know... childish? But still I'm going to buy the UK version, because here in Italy it comes out the same day it does there. And it always lasts some months until the German translation is ready (poor translator guy... must be under some pressure.)

[Oh, and in case you're wondering: here in the very northern part of Italy, German is the main language. So in the shops here you can choose between English, German, and Italian Harry. But ItalianHarry is awful. They translated the names of the characters (!) very badly. Whereas in German, the character's names are sometimes even better than in English. *hides*]

Here you can see SexyGermanHarry: http://www.carlsen-harrypotter.de/

From: [identity profile] truffle-shuffle.livejournal.com

I don't know if I'm with you on the "sexy" part, but they're definitely interesting covers. I like the other ones that are on there too; the ones that are maybe the German Adult versions? I can't read German, so I'm just guessing.

From: [identity profile] makkabee.livejournal.com

So you're in Trentino then? Any Austrian irridentists still running about, or are the German-speakers pretty much content with being Italian citizens?

As for the three covers shown, I don't much care for the British children's cover -- Dumbledore looks too ruffled. I agree with GQ that the American cover is better. At first glance I actually like the British adult cover best of the 3 -- it leaves the most to the imagination. Still, I'm in the US so I'll end up with the US copy -- to impatient to wait for transatlantic shipping and all that.

-ResearchBoy

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I should correct it to say I don't think it's Dumbledore's pensieve. But I'm lazy.

I think the 'leathery thing' is just were the flames end, there's one on the top left and bottom right corners.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

You know this is my personal journal and not a community, right? Just wondering as a result of the "how many people here are from Australia" comment.

*yet another random wanderer from Cleolinda*

I didnt even realise there were diferent covers until I came here. That might not seem bad, but I work in a book shop. And what is one of the most stocked books? *shakes head* Oh dear

I don't like it when they show the characters on the cover, they never fit with the characters in my head. Also, I've always pictured Pensives to be a square block with a bowl shaped indent in them, but then again, I'm wierd.

*wonders if her pre-ordered edition will be the adult cover rather than the children's*

From: [identity profile] autumnroyale.livejournal.com

Yeah its all goood i knew that... I was just wondering... cause i dont know many australians on here... and these comments were all kinda general so... i dont know, i was just wondering... hehehe. :) coolie? float by my journal sometime if you like. its not as exciting as this, mind you...

From: [identity profile] kylethoreau.livejournal.com

huh, never saw cover three. Doesn't even LOOK like a Harry Potter book, but cool nonetheless

From: [identity profile] kylethoreau.livejournal.com

yup, I'll stick with US version as my current favorite, unsure about the green though. But the way they did the blue in the last book owned so I'll wait on judgement. (btw the last was my favorite cover of the series)
