Seriously, though, what the fuck is a blade runner? Ridley Scott just made the name up for the movie with absolutely no reason for it whatsoever. There are no blades. There is no running. It's a stupid movie.

I have only seen the first bit when we got made to go to this English thing and it wasn't even for my level of English and it was boring. They talked about change and then Metropolis and Bland Runner...haha whoops typo but you'll appreciate it so I'll leave it. I was all no BlaD-E ah Katie will like the bland. Yes anyway I need sleep.

LOL. Is it wrong that this entry really amused me? XD I feel sorry that it was a stupid movie, but your reaction is the thing that amuses me :p

*sigh*

Which version did you see? The one with Harrison Ford's voiceover or Scott's directors cut?

Blade Runners are what they called the guys who hunt down the replicants. I think there was a line in the movie, but it certainly wasn't obvious.

No of course not, I would probably find it funny too if I wasn't so frustrated. It's funny, it's not even the assignment that's frustrating me, it's the movie itself. I just don't like it.

I saw Scott's director's cut, but I read the novel first. I know exactly what they are, but I think it's stupid that he gave them a name that had nothing to do with anything. It just sounds cool.

I really don't like that movie.

i completely 100% agree with you. philip k. dick is such a fabulous writer, but everyone who tries to make movies out of his books fuck them up SO BAD! blade runner was definitely the worst of them though. there was almost nothing from the book in it! *grumbles*
a scanner darkly had better be really, really good!

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

A Scanner Darkly looks very, very interesting, actually.
I dunno, changing books to make movies is sometimes very effective. I don't think Dick's the best writer ever, but I certainly enjoyed his book a LOT more than that crap movie.

lol, well I'd love to hear your opinions on it. I was actually really surprised at how vehemently I disliked it, because I've always been told it was one of the defining decent scifi movies in history and I love scifi so much.

And, you know, if you happen to have any opinions on the notion of humanity - what it means to be human, what differentiates the human from the non-human - in the novel and the film, I'd like to hear them...

;)

oh, i agree that books can be made into movies well sometimes, but dick's are usually not. did you see paycheck or minority report? not very good (although both are better than blade runner). i haven't seen total recall, so i don't know, it might be better. i think that even if a scanner darkly turns out to be bad as far as adaptation from the book is concerned, the sheer coolenss of how they did it will still make it worth watching!

From: [identity profile] thehush.livejournal.com

I laugh because I care. *snicker* Blade Runner is a weird title for a movie without blades. Should it be... uh. Hell, I haven't seen Blade Runner in a while...

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I like Colin Farrell in Minority Report.

Oh, I like Total Recall, it's cool!

Well, the novel is called Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? but that's a little clunky.

Maybe it should be "Come see this movie, because Harrison Ford can't act but he sure is pretty."

OMG I love it when you rant.

I'm sorry though. I feel your pain!! What's the assignment?

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Finished, that's what it is! I thought it was 3000 words but it was only 2000. I ended up going like 200 words over. I dunno, 2000 words seems short to me.

It was about humanity and non-humanity in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and Blade Runner. I actually like Androids, just not Blade Runner, which made it frustrating. Especially since I wanted to like Blade Runner.

Now I'm off to watch Oprah. Huzzah!

From: [identity profile] flamingo-killer.livejournal.com

Good that you finished! 2000 can be a a lot, if it's something that is hard to write about (I have issues with that minimum for an English paper, for example, but not a History paper).

That sounds like a really cool assignment, even if the movie wasn't so good. Your studies sound so interesting! I can't wait for college =)

Yay for Oprah!!

I have only seen till halfway and I've had it about 2 years now. I'm so slack. It's the reading I'll watch it soon.
