Heee I noticed that discussion over there and I jumped in. Mostly because the seering hate some folks feel for Sayid/Shannon never fails to amuse me, but also ... you know, it's like people completely (or wantonly) forget the Lostaways are plane crash survivors. They suffered a terrible trauma. Topped off with all the weird stuff on the island? That can really change people. I got the impression in "Solitary", but I'd bet anything Sayid (and all the rest of the Lostaways) realized how short life is. With all that... were folks just expecting someone as rational (and frickin' lonely!) as Sayid has been shown to be continue living like a monk with just his photos of St. Nadia to keep him company? I really don't think so.
Not to mention, and maybe I'm just crazy (me, the rest of those who like Sayid/Shannon, the writers and the producers, yada yada) or natural chemistry is subjective, but I do think Naveen and Maggie have chemistry (like crazy, indescent amounts of it). I could readily understand why the writers hooked them up. Again, maybe that's just me.
