Today I got my new glasses so I can see enough to drive and I bought some writable CDs.
My life is SO exciting.
Tonight I watched House of Wax
Yes, I actually rented a movie with Paris Hilton in it for the Paddywhack/Mayhem. Yes, I am sick. I don't care.
What an incredibly moving experience. I laughed, I cried, I screamed. The depth of the writing was incredible. Surely this is set to become a modern classic, with inspired lines such as 'If you like things that pretend to be what they're not, which I guess you do' and the cleverest twists. And so unpredictable!
Uh, okay, so it was crap. It was a tiny bit better than I expected, mostly because it had a couple of interesting visuals - the house of wax melting was pretty nifty. Also, what happens to Paddywhack is far scarier than the rest of the slash & hack killings. Unfortunately, they get the good scares out of the way far too early and the rest is just by-the-numbers boring. By the time Paris died I'd already killed her ten times over in my head. At least it wasn't unwatchable. It was shot in Australia, so the scenery's good, and My Chemical Romance plays at the end (my favourite part of the movie - the credits.) Also, Paddywhack and Mayhem are most unconvincing at not liking each other, particularly when you watch the behind the scenes stuff and see them goofing off after every single take.
I won't like Mayhem. I won't like Mayhem.
4 out of 10 stars.
ETA: Most amused by the current IMDb user review, which has as its title 'Great slasher!' Yeah, I think so too, reviewer.
I also watched Empire Records again, because my sister had never seen it and I'm trying to introduce her to the classics of teen viewing before she gets too old to really appreciate it. Now THERE is an awesome movie. Also possibly the movie with the most quotable character ever in Lucas. You can tell it was made on the cheap, but the cast is so good, and it has such an infectious vibe to it. It's also kind of cathartic. Great soundtrack. If you haven't seen it, you must. Of course I'm biased: this movie was on constantly during my entire last two weeks of high school in the common room.
I'm also gonna lump this in here, because I nearly kinda almost finished it. Okay, I didn't quite finish it. I just really didn't LIKE it. Ghost World
Okay, may have been a better film, but this I found unwatchable. I think if I had watched it in a cinema I would have fallen asleep. I get the feeling that this was made for a very niche market of which I am not a part. I generally like indies but this was just dull. I found myself constantly distracted. Who cares what happens to Enid and Rebecca? They don't seem to care what happens to anyone else. I liked the Indian 60's music, but that's about it. I found the movie to be sort of pretentious as well. I always love Steve Buscemi, but even he couldn't hold my interest for very long.
Unrated, because I didn't finish it.
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny trailer. Whatever you think about Jack Black, he sure can rock out. XD
