Top Five Movies Pre-1990:

5. Some Like It Hot, 1959
4. Rebel Without a Cause, 1955
3. Star Wars, 1977
2. The Goonies, 1985
1. Singin' in the Rain, 1952

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

*groans* this is so hard. I'm a big Gene Kelly fan, but added to that, I could do all five favourites from Singin' in the Rain alone.

5. Mein Liebe Herr, Liza Minelli in Cabaret. I was completely blown away by this when I first saw Cabaret, because I'd heard a lot about it but I had no idea Liza was that incredible in her younger days.

4. Zhang Ziyi in House of Flying Daggers. This movie was crap. I mean, really, really bad. However, the dance she does with the drums is really beautiful and is very well shot. So, uh, watch that and ignore the rest of the movie :)

3. Flashdance, Jennifer Beals in Flashdance. The movie wasn't really that great, but that final dance number has been parodied so many times there has to be something that captured the imagination in it. It captures the adrenaline of the moment really well.

2. (I've Had) The Time of My Life, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray in Dirty Dancing. I actually like the rehearsal dances in this movie best, Patrick and Jennifer have really good chemistry and the rehearsals reflect it better than the big all-out final number, but it's a classic nonetheless.

1. Singin' in the Rain, Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain. Come on, clearly it was going to be this one. Gene Kelly was really obsessed with being perfect, and he tried to push all kinds of boundaries with his dancing. He did a lot of amazing things - dancing with Jerry in Anchors Aweigh, the ballet from An American in Paris, dancing with himself in Cover Girl, dancing in roller skates in It's Always Fair Weather (an underrated favourite of mine.) Even with all these to choose from, I still have to with the simple beauty of Gene Kelly dancing with a fever of 103 in sheets of rain in a suit with an umbrella. The song is perfect, the dance itself is perfect, and the whole thing just makes me smile for hours afterwards.

I saw House of Flying Daggers and that scene was amazing and the cinematography too but the actual film left me a bit meh...
I love your choices and I haven't seen all of "Cabaret" so I must do that some time as well as "Flashdance"! Ooh I'm in the mood for a musical evening now!

Aww, I do love Gene's dancing. If you feel the need to do an extra Top 5, go ahead and pick your Top 5 moments from SITR!

Do you have any recommendations for older musicals like with Fred and Ginger? I haven't seen many of those.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Oh, okay. I thought House of Flying Daggers was just rubbish. Cabaret, on the other hand, is awesome. Footloose is better as a movie than Flashdance.

I will do the top five Singin' in the Rain moments when I'm more awake.

Musical recommendations: Bandwagon, Brigadoon, It's Always Fair Weather, Easter Parade, Top Hat, High Society (not a patch on The Philadelphia Story, which isn't a musical but has Jimmy Stewart, Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, An American in Paris, On the Town, Anchors Aweigh, Gigi, Kiss Me Kate. They're the best ones IMHO.

5. I'm only including one Lamb moment. It's the end of Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner, when he lets Duncan and Veronica go and then turns around to watch the house. Complexity from Lamb? Awesome. Although I do love '18: It's Legal!' too.

4. It's not strictly a moment, but I love that he calls his fans 'hobbits.'

3. He said finding out he had a fan in Australia made his day (http://community.livejournal.com/rack_of_lamb/135214.html?thread=2253870#t2253870).

2. Chair-jumping (http://www.neptunepirateradio.com/comiccon06.html).

Top Five Singin' in the Rain Moments:

5. I suppose it isn't really a moment, but the whole 'Dignity, Always Dignity' montage. I love the contrast between what Don's saying and what we're seeing. Moses Supposes is also brilliant, but this establishes the relationship between Don and Cosmo and is so perfect and funny.
4. The dance with Cyd Charisse. I still think the ballet segment takes away from the movie rather than adding to it, but that dance number with the green dress is spectacular.
3. 'People? I ain't people! I'm a shimmering, glowing star in the cinema firmament.' I love that whole scene. Nobody else loves Lina, but I do. Runner up for this is 'But I can't make love to a bush!', but Lina gets her own back a little more in the suing scene.
2. Make 'Em Laugh, which was always my favourite number growing up.
1. Singin' in the Rain, for all the reasons I stated before.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

OMG YES I KNOW. That's...pretty much why I love that shot. :D

Like I said, I don't read much anymore, and it takes a lot for a book to grab me. If I'd been doing it properly all five would be Harry Potter books.

Polar bears secretly run the whole island.
Definitely.
I agree with the "the others are sick" theory, I just hope there will be some explanation as to why the island heals them /why they needed to take the children.

How about we extend the field and include Chris Lowell moments? That way I can make five really good ones.

Top Five Piz/Chris Lowell Moments:

5. Chris saying that Piz and Logan should move to Utah and both marry Veronica. I liked him before that, but that sealed the deal.
4. When he visited Veronica in the library, started by talking loudly and then whispered. Cutest thing ever.
3. His face when he watched Logan kiss Veronica and realised she was taken. It was fleeting and subtle, but perfect.
2. Black licorice. "It's dark, but it's candy!" Genius.
1. "I specifically asked for someone who wasn't, you know....better looking than me."

Top Five Muhney Quotes:

5. Amrie: Where do you see yourself as your career moves forward - what are goals you’ve set/where do you want your career to take you?

Michael: “German Porn.”

4. "If anyone else responds to this post, I'll find you, I'll pimp-slap you, I'll cuff you, and I'll toss you in a jail-cell with Weevil or Logan. Wait, that's probably not a good way of going about threatening you all."

3. "You touch a child, I touch you. And not in that fun little way you might be hoping for."

2. "The entire show changes and worsens if you know what's coming. That being said, there is only one spoiler you should be aware of...Lamb is Logan's love interest in season 3."

1. "He's like 'taser my nether-regions.'"

Top Five Reasons Muhney is Awesome:

5. He's hot. Really hot.

4. He calls us hobbits.

3. He said finding out he had a fan in Australia made his day (http://community.livejournal.com/rack_of_lamb/135214.html?thread=2253870#t2253870).

1. HE USES MY ICON (http://community.livejournal.com/rack_of_lamb/141460.html?thread=2346388#t2346388).

Top Five Sheriff Lamb Moments:

5. His introduction in the pilot.
4. Uh, [Unknown site tag] will probably kill me for this, but arresting Weevil in the middle of his graduation instead of waiting for it to finish. It's one of the most awful things he's ever done, and it's perfectly, hideously Lamb. He gets pleasure out of making people he thinks are criminals unhappy, out of doing everything according to the book and in the exact moment he figures out what's going on.
3. I love him throughout Donut Run, smug and inferior and frustrated. Trying to tell the FBI people about exactly how much trouble Veronica is, but they don't listen to him. Unwittingly transporting Duncan out of the country. Poor Lamb.
2. "It's legal!"
1. In 'Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner' when he uncuffs Duncan and Veronica then goes back and sits outside the house where the girl is being abused. It's the only decent thing he's ever done, but somehow that makes it more powerful and interesting.

Top Five Reasons Why Team Piz is the Best:

5. People are being mean to him because LoVe is so ridiculously big in this fandom.
4. Chris Lowell is all the kinds of awesome one has to be in order to be a Veronica Mars cast member.
3. His name is Piz.
2. He's funny, sweet and adorable.

Mal: If anyone gets nosy, just, you know... shoot 'em.
Zoe: Shoot 'em?
Mal: Politely.

4. I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you.

3. They don't like it when you shoot at them. I worked that out myself.

2. Love. You can learn all the math in the verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. And love keeps her in the air when she oughtta fall down. Tells ya she's hurting before she keens. Makes her a home.

1.
Mal: We're still flying.
Simon: That's not much.
Mal: It's enough

Top Five Lord of the Rings Scenes:

5. Gollum fighting Smeagol for control. "They're thieves! Wicked, tricksy, false!"
"Murderer!"
"LEAVE NOW AND NEVER COME BACK!"
Definitely a defining scene, you totally forget that Gollum is a CG character.

5. The Council of Elrond. All of it - the introductions of the characters, and the argument, and the hobbits coming out from behind the bushes, and Elrond saying "Doom!" impressively a whole bunch of times. The end, when the Fellowship lines up. "You need people of intelligence on this sort of mission...quest....thing." Brilliant.

4. Gandalf explaining death to Pippin. Uh, tied with every other scene in the entire third movie involving Pippin. This one made the list because it's such a beautiful take on death, but I also love Merry and Pippin splitting up, and Pippin offering his service to Denethor, and singing for Denethor, and the 'deep breath before the plunge', and finding Merry on the battlefields.

3. The Entmoot/the battle at Helm's Deep. I suppose it's not really a scene so much as 20 minutes of the second film, but I love every moment of both scenes as they play out, particularly Merry confronting the Entmoot and Haldir's death.

2. The departure of Boromir, which was a favourite from the books as well. I really love the character, and it was handled so perfectly in the film. And, uh, in the interests of fitting as much of the movies into this as possible, this scene includes Frodo and Sam in the boat.
"I'm going to Mordor alone, Sam."
"Of course you are. And I'm coming with you!"

"I made a promise, Mr. Frodo. A promise. Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee. And I don't mean to. I don't mean to." Augh, I love Sam.

1. "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!" It kills me every. single. time.

I used to listen to Norwegian Wood on repeat for hours when I was 13. Me and my friend thought it was the funniest song ever hahaha. We had no idea what it was actually about.

Aw your Mal quotes are...yay.

LOL Elrond saying DOOM a bunch of times absolutely rules. Whenever I was Fellowship I always find myself saying his lines out loud because the way he talks is amazing. "Men? Men are weak." WOOT!

The last Jake picture nearly melted me into my chair. NGGGHHH
