I'm not dead, but my connection is, and it's nearly as bad. I have also been busy with family and
melissajane14, and I haven't had time to go through my friends list when each page take 15 minutes to load. So if anything's happening, or you want to tell me something, comment here! Please?
Today I saw The Pursuit of Happyness
It's possible I'm just too jaded for inspirational stories. I liked this movie and I liked the performances, but I wasn't as impressed by it as I'd hoped to be going into it. Probably the best part of the film was the performances. Will Smith did a great job doing 'serious acting' with his grey hair, Thandie Newton did good work with an utterly thankless role, and Jaden Smith was a delight in every one of his scenes. One of my problems with the movie was that there were too many of his scenes. I didn't have a clue what Will Smith was studying and I felt like we were left out of what this dream job of his actually entailed in favour of yet another moving scene with his son. The scenes would have had more impact had they been fewer.
The most interesting part of this film for me was the way it highlighted the gulf of difference between the haves and the have-nots, and the desperation of the have-nots, in subtle and striking ways. It tried to get you to cry more than I would've liked, but it wasn't as heavy-handed as it could have been. I also liked the exploration of the city, which was shot really nicely.

Tonight I saw The Italian Job
Oddly enough, Charlize Theron and Ed Norton kind of ruined this movie for me. Ed Norton has said in interviews he never wanted to do it, apparntly, and I wish it'd been an all-boys film or her role had been cast differently, because I felt like they was phoning it in and completely uninvested, and it made their scenes flat-out boring. I loved the heists and the rest of the crew, the casting was inspired. Also, bonus Seth Green looking completely adorable and Donald Sutherland being ten kinds of awesome, and GORGEOUS shots of Venice and fun mini-cooper car chases. It could have been more fun than it was if Charlize and Ed had had fun with it.
