I am posting last night's entry now because LiveJournal wasn't responding for me last night. I haven't had time yet to check if this was an LJ-wide thing or just me.
Article on new Lost characters.
Lost behind-the-scenes photos and a random one of Evi's cleavage.
Some lovely Lost icons by
wound3d. There's also a few gorgeous
loleiasbits creations of the Harry Potter variety.
Indy 4 filming pics.
Watching Shopgirl tonight reminded me of something that I like about the Ron/Hermione relationship and how it came to fruition in Deathly Hallows. I feel like the Big Kiss coming after Ron's concern for the house-elves was really sweet in part because of that book Ron was using earlier in the story. I think it shows that the best way to a girl's heart is not to change, but to actually listen to what she has to say and be interested in what she's interested in. I like that in the end he didn't need to follow guidelines from a book, he just had to pay attention.
Speaking of Harry Potter,

1. What's the nerdiest thing you've ever done in the name of Harry Potter?
I once single-handedly came third in a Harry Potter trivia contest. Not first, you might point out: however, I was the only one on my table of ten who had the faintest idea what I was talking about, and the other tables were teams of Potter fans who had done things like each memorising all the facts they could from one of the books. Also, the idiot children on my table made me change the answer to 'What does S.P.E.W stand for' to 'Society for the Protection of Elvish Welfare', when we all know it's promotion.
I got into a fight with a nine-year-old on a bus about Harry Potter once. Oh! And I scored myself a ticket to the Tokyo premiere of Philosopher's Stone by virtue of being the biggest Harry Potter fan at my school - somehow the head of Warner Bros. in Japan heard of me and sent me tickets.
2. How many people have you peer-pressured into reading the series?
Literally more than I can count. I'm particularly fond of getting an childrens' book author to read the first one by lending her my copy, and finally breaking Nina down (buy buying her a copy).
3. What's the biggest misconception non-HP have about the series and/or fandom?
That they're just kids' books. The stuff we hear about in everyday life is all the superficial side of Harry Potter - muggles and wands and broomsticks and all that jazz. The real draw of the books is the brilliant characters and the themes that she deals with, not the language or the symbols she uses. Which are just fun ;)
4. What is your favorite piece of HP merchandise?
I kinda love my OotP Sirius Black action figure, but I also love the Slytherin wristband I sold my soul for (even if I'm not really a Slytherin).
5. Do you think the HP fandom will still be strong 10 years from now?
As strong as it is now? No, because now it's a ridiculously huge pop culture phenomenon. Still, there's no way it'll ever vanish from the lexicon, and I do think there'll still be a large, hardcore group of fans in 10 years.
Tonight I watched Shopgirl
This film starts off in incredibly (intentionally) awkward territory, which honestly makes it kind of hard to take for the first 40 minutes. Once it settles into a rhythm, though, it kind of charms you. Claire Danes is sweet in a difficult role, and the film is shot really beautifully. I understand that it was adapted from Steve Martin's book; however, I could have done without the occasional and superfluous narration - it was as though Martin wanted you to know how great some of the passages were, even if it disrupted the film. Anyway, overall pretty sweet, but not the best film ever.
