Three brief reviews of movies I've seen recently, to get me up to date.

Singapore Gaga

At 55 minutes it hardly seems fair to classify this as a movie, but I studied it so dammit, I'm counting it. I actually quite enjoyed this little DIY documentary. It's about music and sounds and noise in Singapore, and it does interesting things with sound. It could have been more coherent, but it made for intriguing viewing (and a nice contrast to some of the deeply boring 'films' we've watched in that class.)

Death at a Funeral

This movie is HILARIOUS. I love that it starts out quite sweet and innocent and then becomes really dark and twisted as the movie progresses. Alan Tudyk fabulously scenery-chews his way through pretty much the best role in the movie, and I was nearly falling out of my seat clutching my sides at some points. It went a little too far into gross territory once or twice, but mostly I really, really enjoyed it (while Mitchell squirmed in his seat beside me or hid behind me!)

The Maid

I've just done an assignment on this and feel like the last thing I want to do is write more about it, but here goes. As a straight horror film it's pretty pedestrian, but the twist on the ending is nice and I like the social stuff on Filipina maids and their treatment overseas. There's some really pretty little shots here and there as well.
