Mitchell surprised me tonight by sending me a ridiculously sweet text message to cheer me up. He's usually not too good at that sort of thing, I was very impressed.

Uh, I have nothing else to report. No fandom news today. Listening to Stephen Fry's HP audiobooks - it's sort of surprising how much Lupin, Sirius and Peter sound like the actors who ended up playing them. Also, I am enjoying this more than is really healthy.

Today I saw Spider-Man 3

I don't get it. How could it be so bad? I didn't really enjoy the second one, but at least it made some sort of sense, narratively at any rate. That first fight between Peter and Harry verged on cartoony and came in way too early. Some of the fights were inspired creations, cleverly using the skills and limitations of the various characters (although Peter gets beaten up a ridiculous amount to have NO marks), but some bordered on boring. Subplots were started and then dropped while others pick up with no reason, and Venom was desperately underused. I thought Topher Grace was surprisingly good (not in terms of Topher Grace's acting skills, but in terms of the performances in the rest of the movie) and the only one to turn in a really interesting performance. Sandman was desperately boring, and WTF was up with evil emo!Peter?! Why was he a total clown? That's not aggression, that's just 5-year-old behaviour. I surprisingly didn't mind Mary Jane - she got on with things like saving herself a lot of the time, and getting a job when her big dream fell through. She was a real trooper, and not too melodramatic like I found her in the other films.

The worst thing was Harry, though. I used to love him, but in this it was just...repeating his old storyline and then giving him a weird, random redemption against a bad blue-screen and RUINING HIS BEAUTIFUL FACE.

I loved the third movie, I was so entertained by it! *g*

As for the no marks... in the comics he does have pretty good self healing, of course not at the level of Wolverine, but he does heal much quicker than an average person.
