Dogpile on Frodo!
Okay, so today was a big day in the fandom world, what with both Return of the King (an hour and a half in line, but good seats!) and World Idol. I have very few thoughts aside from incoherent ramblings on the latter, but what I can say I'll put .
My sister went to the toilet twice, but I managed to hold off :) my cousins were embarassed to be seen with us by the end, I think, because we were crying.
Okay, I cried a total of 4 times:
1. Pippin's song
2. Frodo leaving Sam
3. "I may not be able to carry it for you, but I can carry you."
4. Frodo leaving
I think it was Merry crying then that really set me off. That movie was amazing. I got a bit annoyed at a few simplifications, and really annoyed at the Cirith Ungol scene, though it cheered me up when Sam said "You can't walk through Mordor in naught but your skin" like in the book. Sean Astin, Billy Boyd and Ian McKellen-WOW. *dies* And the mess Frodo and Sam made of themselves! I liked how dirty and nasty the final showdown between Gollum and Frodo was. Shelob was TERRIFYING. The beginning was a very cool little intro, bu I think Gollum looks cuter now than he did in the interrim. I guess PJ knew we couldn't watch him for as long as we did if he was quite that hideous. Theoden! I fell in love with Theoden, and the Rohirrim. Found the Army of the Dead shockingly underwhelming.
The battle up until that point was amazing though, and I loved Denethor once I realised he actually *was* a madman, an we weren't supposed to sympathise--I was confused. More Faramir, Eowyn and Merry wouldn't have gone astray, but what was there was SO COOL--the defeat of the Witch King was awesome. Minas Morgul (is that the green place?) was amazing, and I can't rave enough about how terrifying and fantastic Fell Beasts are. The city of Minas Tirith blew me away. Merry separating from Pippin really felt like someone tearing one person apart, it kind of physically hurt. I loved seeing a battle from a hobbit's perspective, too, the confusion and madness, and I love just how deeply foolish Pippin really is and how wise Merry is, and the way they charged right after Aragorn into the fray. And the way the masses bowed to the Hobbits, and they were all "duuuude."
Can't wait for the EE, because I know of at least three cut scenes--Gimli and Legolas's drinking game, Merry and Pipping talking before Pip leaves and Eomer crying, holding Eowyn's head.
But most of all, I loved SAM. My love for Sam knows no bounds. He kicked Orc and giant spider ASS. I felt just that little bit better at the end by reassuring myself (repeatedly) that in the end Sam goes off the the Grey Havens as the last of the Ringbearers to join his Frodo, because to me the film was just this big love story between Frodo and Sam.
Wow, that was a lot more rambling than I thought. Now, on to Idol.
Go Guy! To me he was by far the standout performance, but Norway surprised me--he realy has got a great voice. Loved the Lebanese girl, and how she performed the Arabic song. Mostly it felt wrong though--most of those contestants should have just formed a boy band and have done with it.
I have a new icon, but you'll have to go here to see it, because it's RotK spoilery. I had trouble deciding between that and another by
crackshot involving Merry and Pippin, but this is how I feel about that scene, so it had to be this one.
Link of the Day, just for fun. Some Lord of the Rings stuff.
Pics of the Day, fresh from Bag End Inn.
Sexy as all hell new Doms here, here and here. Too big for LJ.

Hooligans. Hell yeah.

I couldn't put it better myself. It was rather like that.
SHELOB scared me. Very much so. I'm a huge arachnaphobe, and Shelob was one big nasty spider.
I could go on and on about the movie, its so touching.
I loved the "You bow to no one" That was touching.
And I also believe Sam followed his Frodo to the Grey Havens. Sam and Frodo belong to each other.

They talk before Pippin leaves?! Brilliant! I'm really looking forward to Eomer crying and holding Eowyn, he looks so grief sticken and wah. I was sad it was cut out of the TE.
As for Guy! Kicked arse though I would have preferred another, jazzier song. Oh well, the judges gave him glowing praise including the crazy arse Polish guy so that's gotta be good! I loved Kurt, too, he was phenominal. He's not ugly either damnit, he just has bad teeth and a bit of a chubby face hencet he hobbit comment. Sniff.
Anyway, too tired to ramble. <3

Nazgul: No man can kill me
Eowyn: I am no man
Yay, go Eowyn, she was my favourite in the books. I thought the Rosie Cotton bit was a bit weird (even though I know it's in the book)because Sam's relationship with her could never match the intensity of his with Frodo. Other than that it was fantastic, and Merry can sing!
Onother topics I hope you had a great Christmas and hope to see you soon :-)

Aragorn's song was good. Which kiss are you referring to? The boring het one?

Re: Back!
Gah, that was not a boring het kiss! Het, yeah, but boring no. Although I kept waiting for full-fledged snogging at the end reunion bed scene with the Fab Four. It would have been very tasteful and oh-so perfect. Especially with the lingering look exchanged between Sam and Frodo. Rrrrow!
