I'm too tired for a full post tonight.
New Half-Blood Prince pictures. I ♥ Luna with every fibre of my being.
Tonight I went to Mitchell's and watched a movie I think you lot might actually be excited about, Across the Universe
Wow, what a crazy, wild ride. I actually really liked this movie. Not on the level that I know some of you guys do, but I enjoyed almost all of it. The performances were pretty consistently good, and it was a really musical ride. The way that the Beatles songs were woven throughout was (almost always) amazing and spot-on, and the interpretations were (for the most part) really clever and new and intriguing. Like many other people, the standouts for me were 'I Want You' and 'Strawberry Fields Forever', although I was fond of some of the smaller moments, like Prudence's 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' and Lucy's 'If I Fell', and I loved the end's 'Hey Jude'. I have to say, I am with everyone who said Eddie Izzard's 'Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite', and I felt like Sadie was slightly overused - they gave a couple of songs to her that I would've liked to have seen different interpretations of, although 'Helter Skelter', 'Don't Let Me Down' and 'Why Don't We Do It in the Road' were all pretty much spot-on. Jim Sturgess is something, isn't he? There were moments when I thought he had sort of a British Jake Gyllenhaal thing going on, I approve. I liked Joe Anderson as Max, too, because that was a tough journey that could've been done badly. Not a huge Evan Rachel Wood fan, though, and I was sad that a couple of my favourite Beatles numbers weren't in there. I think you really had to be a fan of the music to appreciate a lot of the movie, because Mitchell was decidedly bored for a large part of it, until the plot really kicked in. I've read that this is kind of an alternate universe and it's like the Beatles's music just permeates through into it, but I felt more like it was our universe as defined by their music, their insight.
I felt like there were also a few moments that were a little disjointed - not purposefully, drup-trip style, but just strange scene transitions. Going straight from the happy field of drug trips to Max in battle was kind of a jolt, and I remember feeling that way a couple of other times with it taking me out of the story. I also think that bringing everybody in from all over the place at the start was somewhat confusing, and something that people probably only get into on the second viewing, which I'll hopefully have at one stage.
Dude, I knew I recognised Paco! So who has the soundtrack?
