Today was pretty much awesome, in spite of the freezing, rainy weather. I saw Tom, Squishy, Mitchell, TG and Melissa, and I got to play Guitar Hero and eat cake and watch movies, so that's a good day in my books.

Tonight I saw Brick Lane
About a Bangladeshi woman who was sent to marry an older man and live in London, and embarks on an affair with a younger man. I thought this film was beautiful. It had a slow pace, but I didn't end up finding myself getting bored terribly often, which is quite an achievement, and I think a lot of that is to do with Tannishtha Chatterjee in the lead role and how gorgeously the film was made. The music was phenomenal, too. I did find the plot a little frustrating at points, and the fact that her youngest daughter has pretty much no personality grated on me - there was plenty of time to give her one - but overall, I was impressed. It was a sensitive portrayal of cultures coming together. It's also cool that this was a very woman-centric film - directed, written and starring women.

Having never seen him in anything before, I hadn't realised that Bob Hope was gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide. The flirting, my God! Plus BOYKISSING! This movie also made me laugh more than I expected to, with plenty of slapstick comedy to go around - for every miss there was at least one hit, so it paid off. The dubbing is terrible, though. Bob and Bing have great chemistry, and I love all the breaking of the fourth wall. They're obviously already settled into a routine with these films, because there were in-jokes I know I didn't quite get and all the leads were very comfortable with each other. Yes, this movie was racist (I've never seen a whiter portrayal of Morocco) but you can't really expect anything different. Mostly it was just fun.
