Truth time, I've already flicked through this episode and watched Dean & Sam hugging like 20 times, but I haven't watched it through yet. Namely, I haven't seen the first scene yet at all.

Oh hey, Buffy. I don't like the version of Hell we saw in the season 3 finale much. How is it that I always forgot just how amazingly good-looking Jensen Ackles is? It's inhuman. Also, an amazing and underrated actor.

And scene. Now I particularly like Dean's little 'I know' before he thinks up the line about looking good, like he's just as amazed to be here and to see Sam, and the second, tighter grip he gets after Sam makes that little sound. Sam's dismissal of the girl is kinda funny.

I don't pay, Dean. Poor Sam, not being able to bring Dean back. Oh, I didn't see the bit with Sam wearing Dean's amulet! Awwww! And he's wearing his girly shirt with the pink flowers. Poor Sam.

Seems Dean remembers a little. Gah, those EYES of his, that FACE.

I don't get why they totally dropped the thing about Sam's powers for nearly the whole of last season just to bring it back full-force. Dean's very aggressive about it.

LOL the psychic really likes Bobby. And, apparently, the boys. But then who doesn't? This can only end badly. Flirty!Dean!! YOU ARE NOT INVITED LOL!!!

Sam's idea is better than Dean's. Isn't that demon waitress from Battlestar Galactica? Oh hey, it's the all-demon diner. Perky nipples?! Sam's little aborted, subconscious move towards the demon waitress when she mentioned dragging Dean back to hell herself was very cool, as was Dean's almost-pre-emptive move to stop him. PSYCHIC. Dean stole that money from a diner to give it to a demon?

Sam's just leaving? IN THE IMPALA??? Car porn shot! I like the dark lighting in this episode.

The boys are already keeping secrets from each other. It is a very bad idea. Sam's better off at Demon Diner? Oh, they've been blinded by Castiel too! Yes, I know who he is. Sam just got beat all to hell by a blind girl?! Wow, Sam's force!exorcising demons now.
Wait, the girl in the room was Ruby? Sam's screwing Ruby?

She's not going to come between them, apparently.

The wind, lol. Hello Castiel, aka Cranky McHolypants. I agree with the comments: possibly the best entrance ever, and definitely an awesome character. I love that he mostly looks a little confused and bored with dealing with Dean. I also love the theatrics.

Look, I really hope they're setting heaven & the angels up as just another side in the ongoing war, in it for their own ends rather than All That is Good and Holy. Good Omens-style, but less funny. Because if this show gets too preachy I'm going to get really irritated.

The more I think about it, the more I like the episode. It was a great start to the season, and a great hint as to what the whole season might be like. Angels and demons and Sam using his powers and secrets kept from each other by both boys and wow. General awesomeness, really.

Also, Jensen's face can't possibly get MORE beautiful, can it? And Castiel is gorgeous.

My take is that Heaven and Hell have been at war for a long time and the humans are just things that are used or get in the way. While the angels seem a little more diplomatic about it thus far, I still don't see Castiel having too many qualms about blasting someone with some holy fire. I don't think Dean will go quietly as heaven's errand boy and I don't think Sam realizes how dangerous what he's doing is (meanwhile, how did I miss that he was sleeping with Ruby until the next day?) If they play with this in a Good Omens manner this season could be awesome.

Considering his awesome entrance and sort of baffled air when it came to Dean, I already sort of love Cranky McHolypants. Demons seem sneaky. Apparently angels like the theatrics and are just badass without a lot of explaination. Maybe they don't feel like they owe one. He doesn't seem to dislike Dean so much as be a little grouchy that he's not catching on quickly and confused as to why he's not grabbing at the salvation thing. He's not taunting like a demon, just straightfoward and imperious, which is not going to sit well with Dean.

I like most of the episode, but it really does upset me that there's a disconnect between the boys. I know they're going for it, but it gives me an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach.

Yeah, I really hope that's where they're going by having Castiel be so cavalier about the human cost of this war, having the two sides and Sam and Dean caught in the middle, being pulled apart. I'm kinda hoping that right at the end heaven will be all 'DEAN MUST KILL SAM' and Dean will be like 'Fuck that' and fix everything. Because he's Dean Winchester. He can do that.

I kind of love Castiel too. There's this supreme superiority he's giving off that could prove to be really fun. Kinda like Illyria.

I did watch a few bits of it beforehand. To be honest, though, the thing that shocked me the most was that distance I felt between Sam and Dean - Sam just leaves Dean in the middle of the night right after he gets back? That got me way more than the angels and the FORCE!EXORCISE POWERS ACTIVATE, because I kinda thought the show might head down that sort of road eventually.
