I'll leave the big fandom talk until later, so those reading this entry to find out my opinions on that just skip this next bit, mmmkay?

HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY!

Kiss me, I'm Irish <3

My day was pretty good. I was very good and went to my Grammar class for the first time in three weeks, then immediately regretted it--had homework due today which has been extended until tomorrow. Ugh. I wore pigtails, which always cheer me up. I was literally falling asleep in my Oral class--it's not easy to listen to two speeches on immigration in French. *zones out*

Right, anyway. I had lunch with Melissa and Tom and Nina and Misha. I went on and on about the convention while they talked about topless feminist houses and the like. I got hugs :D I like hugs, I've been wanting some since all my LJ friends left.

Bumped into Nutty, too. Waved to him and he walked right up and hugged me, not so much as a preliminary hello. I showed off my Craig photo and he said Craig is FUCKING HOT, and then I got locked out of my classroom and had to knock on the door :S and Maria said she liked my hair.

Angel tonight was cool, not on par with the last two weeks but that might be because Angel was the main character in the episode. I like the tongue-in-cheek weird wrestling superheroes (does anyone else think this was a very Joss episode?) and the myste~rious ending.

Link of the Day--well, there's two.
1. Once You Pop (You Can't Stop)0--check out the fancy new layout, as voted by you! It's The Kiss. PLease let me know what you think!
2. The Post that Started a Flame War by [livejournal.com profile] restriction.

On the whole, I wondered who exactly she was talking about and thought she was largely too harsh on people. Now, I know I live in my own little world a lot and was doing so even more at the con, but I'm positive none of my own behaviour was at all inappropriate and I don't remember many other people's being so. I don't know, maybe she heard things I didn't, or rumours got out of control as they're want to do. And yes, someone did ask about one of the guest's sexuality, and Mark did answer her diplomatically, but that WASN'T part of the Slash Conversation.

I will pick up on her slash conversation comments. I do find it insulting that, instead of asking people who *were* there what happened, she relied on rumours about it, and then became convinced that her friend cleared everything right up for Mark the next day. As far as I know, Mark enjoyed our conversation and found it interesting. He didn't have to stay and talk to us, but he did anyway. He didn't have to hug me afterwards, esp. since I was talking quite heavily with him about it, but he did. He's a really nice, smart guy, and I enjoyed his company a lot.
The main things I have to stress about the conversation are its normalcy and the fact that it was two-sided. He asked questions, we answered, we all debated. He talked about S&M bars and made up the beginning of his own slash story about Gil-Galad and Elrond.

If anyone has any questions at all about what happened during this conversation for someone who is well entrenched in the fandom, and in slash, and has an informed opinion on it (if you'd like to check out my website or read this journal to see whether you think I'm trustworthy), please go ahead an ask me. If you think I'm just another squealing fangirl, that's just fine with me. One negative rant is not going to ruin my fantastic weekend.

Finally, I have nothing against [livejournal.com profile] restriction, she is entitled to her own opinion. I do love [livejournal.com profile] naughtyevil and [livejournal.com profile] minyafalas though and wish the fighting wasn't making everyone so upset. All my love, *hugs* and *kisses* to all that want them.
Basically, the gist of it: I LOVE MARK.

Here are some nice, happy pics, and a couple REALLY CUTE ones for those Monaboyders out there. That's right, Dom's back in my journal baby :)

Here are the cuties!

Aww! Pouty!Dom.

Why isn't "diplomatic" a mood?

Just a phase you're going through

I really like the new layout :)

Personally, I didn't like The Cautionary tale of numero cinquo too much. It hasn't to do with Angel (because I lurve him *grins*) but I just found it a bit 'blah'. I am just not a big Ben Edlund fan. (Now I hope it was really him who wrote the episode :P)

Yay for the Dom returning to your LJ! *dances*

I do find it insulting that, instead of asking people who *were* there what happened, she relied on rumours about it, and then became convinced that her friend cleared everything right up for Mark the next day.

That is basically what hurt me about the whole slash conversation thing. I admit I am not that big on slash, I don't read it nor write it but I know enough about it to understand where people are coming from with it.

It hurt me to just assume that everyone involved in that conversation didn't have a clue about slash. I mean you told me you read/write slash a fair amount so I am sure if I had said anything in any way which was false you'd have jumped in and corrected me!

And it's actually quite funny because everything we told Mark about slash lead him to encourage us to keep writing it. Therefore we mustn't have given slashers a bad name! *sigh*

Finally, I have nothing against [livejournal.com profile] restriction, she is entitled to her own opinion

I don't have anything against her either. I can see how she would think some of my behaviour was disgusting but only because she didn't actually see what ended up happening. And I can't justify myself or my actions by blaming them on alcohol because whether or not I was drunk I still did some of those things but not to the extent that she thinks.

*shrugs* Whatever, I am so tired of discussing these things. It just hurt me that someone I deemed a friend told other people I had done things on assumption without actually checking with me if I had followed through or not.

Apologies to [livejournal.com profile] green_queen for addressing this in her journal.

It hurt me to just assume that everyone involved in that conversation didn't have a clue about slash.

Where was that said? I certainly never said that.

It's a pretty rich assumption for you to make, considering that you're assuming that that was what I was thinking when I made the briefest mention of it. :(

It just hurt me that someone I deemed a friend told other people I had done things on assumption without actually checking with me if I had followed through or not.

If you'll recall, indeed, the entry is still there so you can go and check, no one was mentioned by name. I was being deliberately vague because I didn't want to point fingers. -.-

I'm not meaning to make assumptions, that was merely the feeling I got. You explained that you didn't know our stances on slash and that we could have been saying anything to Mark and making slashers look bad. And then you mentioned that the slash talk had been rectified on Monday by someone else.

To me that implies that what we had said to Mark was misinformed and we didn't know what we were talking about. Perhaps you didn't mean it that way and I am completely misconstruing it but thats how I interpreted it.

I was being deliberately vague because I didn't want to point fingers. -.-

I realise that Sharon, and I thank you for not pointing fingers. I guess I wasn't being clear, what I meant was I think I could have handled this better if you had e-mailed me and discussed this with me first rather than write a rant and then direct everyone's attention to it.

That's all I am saying. I hope that clears it up a little better for you :)

Dom and Billy playing Video Games together! Totally the coolest thing of all time! Monaboyd. yeah. yeah. yeah.

I totally agree with your take on the flame war. I do realise that following a guest to their room is a bit extreme, but really, if the celebrities really didn't want to be objectified then they would have acted that way! The wouldn't have played up to everything, or squeezed each others thighs.

One negative rant is not going to ruin my fantastic weekend.

Those are the most sensible words that have been said about this whole thing.

I'm sick of the way people have totally misinterpreted a TWO LINE throwaway comment. -.- So here I go, defending myself again:

Put yourself in my shoes - and indeed, the shoes of everyone else who was concerned about these conversations.

You've been involved in slash for over a third of your life and fandom for a helluva lot longer. It's very much a part of who you are. You find out that there is a group of people whose opinions and beliefs you don't know about the topic have been holding a discussion with one of the guests. Yes, you know he started it. But how do you know what he has been told? Should you go up to these people and demand to know what they told him about it, as if it's your right to know everything that was said to him?

You find out later that a friend who knows a lot about slash and, indeed, has written papers for uni on the very subject, has had a discussion with the guest about it the next day, you feel it would be safe to conclude that if there were any misconceptions they were resolved. And you'll note that I didn't actually say that there were misconceptions. I said: "any misconceptions that may have arisen".

Do you understand where I'm coming from?

I feel like no one even read the words, just saw mention of the conversations and then saw fit to go me because if I mentioned it then it must have been omg!bad. I honestly don't care what people think of me because of this, but I just wish that if they're going to make an assessment they make it based on the actual information given. Instead of taking everything out of context. -.-

You've no need to demand anything. I'm sure if you'd asked nicely we'd have been only too happy to share the experience.

I do understand where you're coming from, but I just feelt like there was some jumping to conclusions involved.
