Okay, starting with A-G on the Alphabet Meme:

A - Awesome, Captain aka Devon Woodcomb

Okay, I don't want to spoil for 'Chuck', but the most recent episode makes this harder to write! I love Captain Awesome so much. He started out as just a background joke, but clearly there's something about him (or maybe the women watching the show just want someone to show as much skin as Sarah always does), because he's become so much more. Devon is just such a good guy. I mean, I know he's good at everything, but he's one of those people you can't hate because they're also nice people. That's what makes him really awesome: he's good-looking, intelligent, has a beautiful wife, but he also takes the time out to try to help people as much as he possibly can. He's just a really awesome guy. Also, he looks good shirtless.

B - Big Bang Theory

I don't usually get into sit-coms that much, because you can drop in and out of them without missing much, and canned laughter is annoying, and I never feel like I can relate. Boy can I relate to Big Bang Theory. I wish they'd get Leslie Winkle back so we could have our girl nerd out there representing, but even without her, this is actually a comedy that lives in our geek world - and simultaneously celebrates it and mocks it. It doesn't laugh at geeks, it laughs with them. The characters are great, too - I love Raj, Penny and Sheldon in particular. Sheldon Cooper is a stroke of comedy genius, honestly - he should get annoying, but somehow he just gets better and more lovable...in spite of not growing at all. I love how wonderfully nerdy and geeky they are, and that they enjoy the sort of things I enjoy. This show just makes me really happy.
I will never, ever ship Sheldon/Penny. It's weird.

C - Cliffhangers

I love good cliffhangers. I love to be left for a few weeks, or even a few months, waiting to see what will happen on a show I care about with something that's really interesting, but not hurtful. I think there is a line that the writers sometimes cross. The best examples I can think of are 'Lost' and 'White Collar'. At the end of nearly every season, 'Lost' comes up with an utterly brilliant cliffie that leaves us all gobsmacked and desperate to know more, but doesn't actually hurt us emotionally - the hatch, the flash to the future, Juliet and the bomb. We're all thinking and talking about it, but it doesn't betray the characters or anything. 'White Collar' gave us a cliffhanger that turns the central relationship of the show on its head, after only a few episodes to get into the groove of it. The implications of it mean that 'White Collar' will probably become a less enjoyable show to watch, however they explain it. It's bloody annoying.

D - Dominic Monaghan

Really? Again? I don't know what else I can say about Dom that I haven't said a million times before. He's funny, he's British, he's adorable, he's smart, he's affectionate, he's a good actor, he's a total geek. I adore him. I also love how passionate he is about animals, because it's always good when someone really cares about something, even if it's not something you're interested in.

E - Enver Gjokaj

Amazing. It's the only word to describe Enver Gjokaj. Well, not the only word. Astonishing, ridiculous, talented, versatile. In two seasons of Dollhouse, we have watched Enver play: a low-rate Russian mobster; a blank, child-like 'doll'; a lofty FBI agent; a romantic British gentleman; Laurence Dominic; a serial killer; a ditzy college co-ed; an Italian art expert; Topher; a scientist; a psychologist; and, finally, his original personality, an Italian-background career soldier. In every single one of these roles, he is totally and utterly convincing. This man is a chameleon - the impersonations of other actors we've already seen are always impeccable. If you closed your eyes in the Dominic and Topher scenes, you wouldn't be able to tell that he was a different person; some people even thought that Reed Diamond's voice had actually been dubbed over Enver's for the Dominic performance. He disappears into the roles, but he never loses the ability to make you connect with them emotionally. Watching him develop Tony over a few episodes has also been interesting. If someone doesn't snap Enver up straight out of 'Dollhouse' for much, much bigger things, the entertainment world will be missing out.

F - Fandom

You know, sometimes you guys give me really hard things to write about. How am I supposed to sum up fandom in a paragraph, when it has been my hobby and sustained me for about the last 14 years of my life? I think I was always a fangirl - I've always watched or read things obsessively, anyway, based on how much I loved them. I discovered internet fandom when I was about 12 or 13, and my first online fandom was 'Sliders'. When I moved to Japan, my Buffy fandom got me through high school, and about halfway through I discovered Harry Potter - and literally became famous across a couple of schools for my Potter obsession. LJ opened up my fandom opportunities more than ever, and this is my fandom sanctuary now. I think fangirling is in my blood. As for the community, I think for the most part fandom is really great. Our collective passion for good, exciting, thought-provoking, fun entertainment is something to behold when we all come together. How about the Star Trek fandom explosion of last year? We tend to band together, and we're pretty much a self-governed community of equals, so all things considered we do pretty well. Most of the shows I love also have intelligent, open and friendly fandoms. Of course, there are exceptions. A lot of Supernatural fandom, for instance, or rabid shippers. I hate that our whole group is judged by these people - the screamers and fainters and people who think they've stepped out of the fandom, the stalkers and jumpers and creeps. They're a minority, and most of us are just very into our entertainment.

G - Gaila

Yeah, I know, I'm biased because she's green. I love Gaila, though. For one thing, Rachel Nichols is quite curvy and voluptuous as Gaila, so she has a really feminine sexiness to her in this role, and she seems so comfortable in her sexuality. I guess fandom has coloured how I see Gaila, because fandom writes her as such a strong character; also, her back story is apparently that she's an escaped Orion slave girl, which makes her that much more impressive. Go read Lunch and Other Obscenities for awesome Gaila characterisation.

Just commenting to chime in on the Enver love. You know he's got a movie coming out this year with Robert De Niro and Edward Norton. I'd say he's hit the big times.

Well, I heard about it, but he isn't in the trailer so I don't know how big his role is. Chris Lowell is in 'Up in the Air' but nobody gives a flying fuck, so I don't know if that really counts as hitting the big time yet. He should, though!

I'm trying to remain hopeful because he is the fourth character listed on imdb, so hopefully he is reasonably prominent. Although, admittedly, I have no idea what the film is about. Chris Lowell is in 'Up in the Air'? Oh, I definitely give a flying fuck. I'll have to see that one now too.

Your paragraph on Enver was fantastic! LOVE. Also, thanks for the fic recommendation! I haven't actually read much Trek fic but I loved that!

Tee hee! I thought you did rather well.

I liked the White Collar cliffhanger, because I think it's more of a mis-direct than a twist. I do not believe Peter's a bad guy, I think they're just working on a more complex and interesting characterization. (I hope, because Neal having everyone wrapped around his little finger is starting to grate on me.)
