I know JK Rowling outed Dumbledore as, I don't know, the official Harry Potter gay or whatever, but Remus and Sirius will always be my Harry Potter OTP. There are so many things that make more sense to me if Remus and Sirius were in love - the way that Remus was able to calm Sirius when nobody else could, the way Remus acted after Sirius died, Remus's relationship with Tonks, everything. It gives me hope that Sirius's life wasn't as tragic as it seemed, and it just seems so right, the way they interact.

I'm still convinced the Harry/Hermione shippers were reading a different set of books until Half-Blood Prince came out, because how could they miss the epic flirt-fighting OTP-ness of Ron/Hermione? How Ron humanises Hermione, how Hermione makes Ron think and become a better person, how adorable and oblivious and fantastic they are? This is THE canon Harry Potter OTP, they need each other.

Lupin/Sirius - isn't canon but I can see it. Back when POA came out, I pondered about whether JKR wrote Lupin's character as sort of an allegory - the teacher whom everyone loves, who has so much to share with his class.. but whose secret life makes the adults wary to have him around their children.

Ron/Hermione - I'm with you on this one.. no clue where the H/H readers were coming up with anything to support their claims.

It's funny: my boyfriend is reading the HP series for the first time at my insistence. He's just gotten past the Yule Ball, and when I said "So, you've witnessed the Hermione and Ron fight and Ron's infuriatingly blind jealousy over Hermione and Krum because he's just too stubborn to admit how he feels. And so is she." and he said "I just assumed, up to that point, that Hermione and Harry were going to get together. Like, there's character A, his sidekick character B, and character C, the girl who is typically the love interest for character A. It never occurred to me that Hermione and Ron would get together." I stared at him incredulously. "I thought from the first book, when Ron hurt her feelings and then felt really bad about it afterward, that those two would end up together." He said "I didn't see that." I said "There are love interests for Harry, and you'll see them - he's already got a thing for Cho in the book you're reading, and if you haven't figured out who the other one is yet, well...you're such a boy!"

He looked at me seriously and said "What other girl?" So Jason, like Harry, has not really noticed Ginny yet either. lol

That assumption, that because there is a male lead and a female friend therefore they must get together, is the only reasoning I understand for thinking Harry and Hermione might get together, but it's not really a reason to ship them. It would just be lazy if, as in the case of Harry and Hermione, there's no OTHER reason to get them together than that they're major characters. If you're not reading the books with that assumption, then there's no reason to see it. Jason gets it now, so he's not doing that badly - it really gets obvious in books 4 and 5.

I didn't see the Harry/Ginny possibility until book 5. I guess I'm such a boy too.

Yeah, Jason definitely sees that Ron and Hermione stuff now, but he's still a little stuck on how he thought it would Hermione and Harry. He'll be swayed more once Cho and Ginny are bigger roles in Harry's life, and especially after the whole Lavender Brown stuff. I'm just happy he loves the books and likes to talk about them. He still calls me a nerd when I get too excited, but then he'll start using Apparating in a real-world sentence and I know I've got him hooked.

I think I always assumed that Ginny, ultimately, was going to end up with Harry. Because she was obsessed with him, Ron's sister, etc. I just seemed like from Chamber of Secrets on that they'd head in that direction eventually.

I think I tend not to analyse for ships that much. I'm less interested in them than most people.

I don't get into shipper wars about them or anything, but I do definitely gravitate towards certain couples. Must be the hopeless romantic in me. ;)

I will never understand how people didn't see Ron/Hermione's otpness.
