Tonight I watched Halloween

I figured I should start watching some horror classics, it being the month for it and all. It was good, very good - it remains a lot better than pretty much everything in the teen horror genre since. I think what really stands out is the genuine terror it strikes in the every day - the long, lasting images of Michael Myers just watching. Watching Laurie, watching the kids, actually making the every day feel unsafe. Jamie Lee Curtis is, of course, fantastic, but the other girl had it coming - she was the most negligent babysitter ever. I mean, really. Laurie actually did a good job of protecting the kids when she figured out there was a killer coming, which is fairly impressive. The soundtrack is fantastic.

4 out of 5

After that I may or may not have watched The Broken Hearts Club again. You can't prove anything. It's not like I still need to watch stacks of movies before the end of the year or anything.

Helena Bonham Carter is so not book!Bella, but I can't help loving her. She just plays Bella with so much relish.

I LOVE Halloween! Pretty much for the reasons you've given- the fact that he's there in BROAD DAYLIGHT instead of skulking around makes it somehow more chilling.
Also Jamie Lee Curtis was the original Scream Queen, and the fact she's not a total idiot in the movie is awesome and I wish it'd happen more often in modern horror movies.
Now avoid Halloween: 20 Years Later like the plague.
