It's approximately a billionty degrees, I've hurt my ankle and my leg, I have a cold, I'm covered in mosquito bites and I'm sunburnt. Yay, Australia Day.
(Seriously, though, I have a mosquito bite on my arm that's like 6 cm in diameter. This is not normal.)

Last night I saw American Psycho
I'm going to add this to the pantheon of nihilistic, violent movies that I can acknowledge as good movies without actually liking them (alongside A Clockwork Orange and Fight Club). Christian Bale does a great job, it's visually very powerful, and it has moments that even I had to really enjoy, but for the most part the whole movie just made me want to shower. There are some less-than-subtle tropes, visually and in the writing, that kind of annoyed me at certain points (well done, you obscured his face again. Wonder what that means?) It has a cast full of very recognisable faces, which I wasn't expecting (hello, unexpected Jared Leto). Psychologically it's quite interesting, and I loved how simultaneously ridiculous and threatening Patrick Bateman's pop music rants were. I knew about the whole unreliable narrator thing, too, so I knew where the movie was going, but I still found myself wishing someone would stab him in the nuts.
