So I've been thinking of taking a cooking class and lamenting the fact that I couldn't find one to do in Canberra, even with all my Google-fu.

AND THEN, yesterday, a flyer came in the mail for a previous tenant of my apartment - and it was offering a whole bunch of courses, including cooking classes! It's like a scientific coincidence that I will choose to interpret as fate! There are two classes run by the same guy that are the same price and go for seven weeks. Now, the obvious choice would be Cooking 101, but I REALLY want to take the "Cooking for Blokes" class because:
a) I don't like the idea of being excluded based on my gender and
b) it might be a good way to meet guys.

SO WHICH CLASS SHOULD I DO?

[Poll #1781143]

Keep in mind I'm also actually unemployed right now, but I do have a fair bit of money and this course costs much, much less than even my rent for one week. It works out at less than $50 a week.

But by giving your money to a course entitled "Cooking for Blokes", doesn't that just positively reinforce the person whose idea it is to have a course "for Blokes"?

I tickied the last one because it reminds me of this:

GEEZ DAWN STOP YELLING AT MEEEEEE!

Yeah, that's a good point, but I still really want to meet guys.

It's your fault for going in a teenager's bedroom, yo!

Hahaha, I would laugh it it turns out to be full of women looking to meet men.

*lol* Having read the comments, I kinda want you to do the "Cooking for Blokes" one just to see if there is nothing but women hoping to meet guys :D

How expensive are the classes? Can you take both? I chose Cooking 101 because there wasn't an option for both. Also, cooking for blokes? Really? Can't cooking just be cooking without having ANY gender assignment?

However, since I know cooking doesn't come easily to you, I do highly recommend the 101 course, because you'll get all the basics. I also recommend getting How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman. His cookbooks are amazing, and I've learned tons from mine.

I don't know. Given that they're actually both run by the same guy (which makes Cooking for Blokes even more sexist imo) and at around the same time, there might be some overlap. Also, that might be a little much budget-wise.

Thanks for the book rec!

They'll both be good, but I suspect the "for blokes" one will have a heavier focus on meat and BBQ and traditionally 'blokey' culinary skills, because if you're going to stereotype, why not go all out.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the class is full of middle aged divorced guys.
