Gotta write some infor about filming today:
The crew were to arrive at 12, I was about 10 minutes late and found Dave, Julian and John already there, Erin arrived a few minutes after me and Martha at 1. First we moved the furniture to the right positions, then John and Julian made a run home to pick up some lights and we set about making the bar stools borrowed from the Gods highed because when sitting on them, nobody could reach the bar properly. Eventually Dave brought out some crates to put them on, and we put cushions on them as well to give them extra height. The next person to arrive was Joel, who plays the bartender. He was early and arrived in full costume. The make-up people, Sarah and Tony (Charlotte and Bob) all arrived at around the same time, and the make-up artists started work immediately. While they were working, the crew and I lit and placed candles around and worked out light and sound for the filming.
Then we started with an actors' rehearsal which we also taped and used as a test for the lighting. For the shots with Sarah in focus, we had to keep the lights high because the bar cast a shadow across her chest if the lights were low, but for the shots of Tony that didn't matter. On most shots we put one or two pieces of paper in front of the lamp in order to soften the light so that no-one was overlit. We did about 6 takes of each piece of dialogue from each side. There were a few problems such as the changing of lines around and when Bob should put a straw in Charlotte's drink, which were mostly our fault as we should have given the actors a revised script. Poor old Joel mostly just did "hand acting" today by putting Charlotte's drink in shot. We had two short breaks. Sarah's leg was in a brace, so she put it on the middle chair to make herself more comfortable. We also had projection problems, Sarah was speaking a bit too quietly sometimes.
I was really impressed by their surprisingly consistent American accents, though.
Unfortunately just as we got to two-shots we ran out of batteries in the camera (we should have been plugging the camera in between shots), so we did that one even shot and onw high shot without sound, though we had the actors say their lines anyway. Joel also walked around cleaning in the background for one shot.
It all took around 3 hours, after which we put the hotel back in order and went our separate ways.
Sorry, real update sometime soon. Go Chanel, and Courtney kicked *ass* tonight! Don't forget to tip. We had a bit of an AI conversation at shooting today actually.
