Ack! My layout went stupid. Why did my layout go stupid?
Okay, since I did OMG NOTHING except take my film to be developed today (won't get it back til Monday), I'm just gonna continue to go over my weekend.
So as I've mentioned I heard
naughtyevil come home but didn't discover until the next morning that he hadn't gotten home until 5:30. We planned to get up early, which I did, but then Luke was so tired that we decided he could sleep in a bit longer and I went for a walk to look for an open pharmacy or even a combini (OMG they have combinis in Brisbane!!! I wish we could have some in Canberra *pouts*.) Couldn't find any, but I did get money out and meet a few interesting characters on my walk.
When I came back I just hung out for a bit then Luke showered and we went to the expo. It was cooler and we didn't bake for quite so long before getting in. Once again I headed straight for the autograph queue (can I just say I love that word? Queue. It's cool.) while Luke found I think
danamaree (happy birthday by the way!) and didn't come with me. Later he DID come to join the queue with
purplenoise and
varchess (the person I forgot yesterday) and that lot, and I got bored and lonely ahead in line by myself so I went back to join them. Lots of in-jokes about clubbing. I felt very left out, and I think
blackrainbows, who was also there, may have too.
Eventually we got to the front of the line and I ended up with
naughtyevil anyway, so I went through to get Noble to sign a picture for me and Sean to sign my Goonies DVD. I talked to Noble for a bit about my dislike of Denethor (I don't think he took it too personally.) He wouldn't take a picture with me there. Then I went through to Sean, and he hugged me!!! He's a *good* hugger. Before that I said that it was my Japanese DVD, I can't remember what he said in response. He noticed my T-shirt and I said it was from the VSD's, and he asked if it was homoerotic. The woman next to me was trying to explain, as was I, that that's not really the point of the VSD's and that they're a parody, and he said "A satire. People refusing to let it go" and laughed. Then he was signing the book for the woman and I said that it was really good and made me stay up too late reading it and he said a *very* sincere "thankyou."
I think I then went to get lunch, which doesn't seem right - I feel like there's some time in the middle there I'm missing or something. Anyway, Luke ran off to the ATM with his friends while I bought some chips and a crappy sausage roll and then went to sit down for the JRD presentation. I saved a seat but they didn't show until after JRD started talking. He was really funny and cool again, I remember him talking about why he left Sliders ("Creative differences. I was creative...") and the Planetary Society, as well as the fact that he wasn't entirely satisfied with Treebeard's voice. Then we listened to Paul Goddard's presentation. I'm pretty sure I must have asked him something, but I can't for the life of me remember what it might have been (I'm fairly sure I asked questions of everybody but Sean and JRD.) Then it was Sean's turn to speak. He's a good speaker, but he tends to really take his time with it. He told us about how Ali was the "Star of the Week" at her school based on a merit system (he thought the teachers were pitting the kids against each other) and how his mother got her star on the Walk of Fame (which we, of course, all knew because we've seen the pictures.) He talked about his mother and Mack and some other stuff, then opened the floor for a few questions. He did his character Doug from 50 First Dates for us and did a little butt dance which was SO CUTE! There were some other questions that were LotR-related that we all really knew the answer to (yawn) and there was the inevitable slash question. He said someone had given him a drawing which he'd sent home and his assistant had stuck up on the bathroom door for him. He said Billy and Dom were fantastic or some such thing, and I can't really remember what else. He didn't pick me to ask a question :( I wanted to ask what he was going to say to Cyndi Lauper on the Goonies commentary!!!
After Sean spoke Luke went home and I watched Penny's presentation (I asked her if she was going to direct for TV because she says she has a calling directing plays and she answered that she was going to have a new show, The Plantation, which she would direct a fair bit of.) Then I went and entered a competition to win a bunch of WETA mockettes including a GORGEOUS Gil-Galad bust which I desperately wanted but some other lucky bastard won them, and I met someone from BOBW. I asked the WETA guy & girl about who did the Fell Beasts and discovered that it was Warren Mahy, so I had the chance to ask him about it all along in March but didn't. Curse me! I mentioned to the guy (can't remember his name) that Ben hated my crown, and he said he liked it. We talked about his job and stuff, and he kept trying to tell me all this really cool information about Brett Beattie and stuff and I was like "I know...I know..." I felt bad. He did inform me that JRD had another size double who was in quite a few shots, something I was not aware of. Those guys were really, really nice. Then I bought myself a Helm's Deep set (I HAVE WANKING HALDIR! The day before I had also bought myself a Fell Beast, because they are absolutely my favourite creatures in Lord of the Rings. I have this completely morbid fascination with them, I think they're beautiful and majestic and yet scary and disgusting all at the same time, I love them.
I caught the end of the Undead chat (I really wish I'd seen that movie before I got there!) and then went to Noble's second presentation. By my third question he was going "Oh, it's you again!" I asked him whether he was playing any good guys in the near future and...something else, I don't remember. I do remeber what I asked the WETA guys, though! I asked if they had to re-apply makeup often because we've all heard the stories of hobbits losing feet and such (I didn't go into detail about Billy and Dom and their racing to touch tables, I thought that might be a little OTT.) The guy told me about how they'd done feet for a bunch of people at the Welly premiere and one of the toes had fallen off and they had to fix it. I actually made friends with the guy running around taking the microphone to question-askers just because I asked so many! I kept pulling up chairs for him and things, lol. He was very cool, the new Adrian, I think. His names was James.
natatree's phone rang next to me while I was waiting to ask Noble a question the first day, and she didn't hang up, so I had to get the guy to keep waiting until Nat was done. Fortunately Noble kept talking, so it was OK.
Anyway, after WETA Nat and her mum and I parted ways (she lent me $20 for the Helm's Deep set - thankyou!) and I walked home, my feet aching. That night Luke and I went to dinner with two of my uncles and their families in Chinatown, which was fun for me, dunno about
naughtyevil. My family thinks I'm a bit nuts, I think. Then my aunt and uncle drove us home, we watched Zoolander, and then Luke went out. He came home before I even went to bed, I think he was looking for THe Boy and didn't find him. So we slept and then the next morning we woke up, watched Bert, and then killed FIVE HOURS wandering around the city (and posting from an internet cafe.) I bought Tim Tam iced chocolate and some hammer things for the Luke that I work with, and eventually we went back to the hotel to collect our bags. I had to do this whole fancy double-bag tying thing in order to carry my toys, and it ended up having to go on the plane with me, which was difficult. I happened to mention when we were walking to the place where the bus was to pick us up that I would hate it if it rained, and then it DID! We got pretty wet just getting under shelter, my toy boxes were all wet :( and I discovered Luke like Crossroads, which damn near killed me. Went to the airport, and Luke stuck around as long as he could, then ran off to join
purplenoise.
At this point, I want to get all gushy. I can't even remember when I met Luke online, but the absolute instant I met him in real life at the BOBW con in March I absolutely fell in love with him (in a non-Hollywood romance sense.) I just had the best time with him this weekend. He's funny and sweet and kinda beautiful and I know I would not have had half as much fun on the trip if he hadn't been there with me, especially since I wasn't that much fun myself. Also, go check out his posts at his journal for much more (better) info! I don't know what he thinks, but I just want everyone to know that he's one of the best friends a girl could have and I love him absolutely to pieces.
natatree is also super cool, and I wish I could have spent more time with her.
Okay, so while at the airport I met a 6 year old boy who asked me heaps of questions about my toys and did some performing, running around and fighting and "dying." He knew a lot about the movies, I was very impressed. We also talked about whether all Slytherins were bad, because he remarked very seriously that I shouldn't wear a Slytherin wristband. It was fun. I just like kids, dunno why. There was also another girl there who had been to Supanova, she was one of the scary anime crowd. Didn't talk to her too much. Flight home was good, I got to read more of the book, which is more of an interesting insight into Sean and Hollywood than it is into the filming of Lord of the Rings. I want to say that a lot of fic writers seem to have him dead on, particularly people like
beizy.
And that's it! I apologise for my rambling, and hope someone got *something* out of it. I want the Star Wars DVDs!!!
Go here and here for
naughtyevil's accounts of the first part of the weekend. Did you get any photos of me Luke?
The AMAZING and wonderful
nothing_to_say sent me some Lost pictures today I haven't seen before (OMG! Dom bare-armed and fishing!) so I made a couple of icons, nothing fancy. Used a tutorial by
zoicite.

My wanking Haldir is standing next to my photo with Craig in the crown. Every so often, I get him down to wank. Because he is Wanking Haldir.
None of my other toys are as much fun as Wanking Haldir, except maybe Can-Can Lupin.
