I had less than 3 hours sleep last night but I am updating anyway.
I am trying to write some NaNo too but, unsurprisingly, it isn't really getting anywhere. I think this con was one of the best I've ever been to, it was so much fun. Really really small and very personal (occasionally too much so), we got to hang out with all the guests. I'm trying to think back for a quick recap of the days:
Wednesday - Luke and Reenah (
naughtyevil and
beanzy) showed up, I went and grabbed them for a couple of drinks with T&N and the gang because they were leaving for Brunei Thursday. That was very cool.
Thursday - Morning workshop sucked beyond the telling of it, was done by David Weatherly and he's icky. However the afternoon session *kicked ass*!! Brett Beattie and Andrew Stehlin did a theatrical combat workshop, Brett talked a fair bit about what he did in the films and told a vastly different story to Orlando's version of the infamous boat-sinking incident. They showed two short films, an absolutely brilliant one directed by one of the stunties, Tim Mack (I think it last name is Mc-something but they called him Tim Mack at the workshop) and starring all the others (pimp!Sala!!!) The film was called Trolley Boy and starred Brett, and it was just really, really good. Much better than Sean Astin's short film (I love Sean and all, but this was better.) Andy showed a short film he made with some other people at the 48 hour film festival in NZ, and then they demonstrated some stunts. I had to sneak off to do an assignment about half an hour before the end of that, then that night we were going to go to the foam party but didn't. We still went out and I got a random cha cha lesson when we went to Cube, which was pretty cool. Reenah had to leave Friday :(
Friday - Friday night was the cocktail party.
frozenwithin,
debs7, Vicki and Zephyr had arrived by then, so the bunch of us were sitting at a table in the corner drinking free champagne shots, and some of the guests came over to talk to us (Stephen Ure gave me the "fucking actors" quote I used the other night.) That was pretty cool. We went out after that too, I went with Andree (
minyafalas) and Maria (
flutterwings) for a bit but it didn't last long.
Saturday - didn't get much sleep before getting to the con on Saturday morning. Really good day, although Weatherly was MC'ing for a bit (there was actual spitting involved. Ewww.) I got my photo taken w/ Thomas and Brett and got them both to wear my crown, which was nifty, and the presentations were mostly pretty good. The Weta boys (Mike Greanish and Daniel Falconer - total sweetie) brought a bunch of really cool gear including Eowyn's helmet to pass around. It's so beautiful, it has all this intricate patterning on it you din't see in the movie and it's not even made of metal. So cool. Brett talked a lot about how he's a bushman and has 10 hunting dogs and a horse called Moose and built his own house. I tell you, he's only little but I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him, he's really tough. He told another story about an accident involving he and Orlando - they tried to stop the horse during the Warg attack shooting and didn't manage to, so they started down a rocky cliff. Orlando was freaking out, screaming, and dropped th reins, and he fell off first, and then Brett fell on top of him. That was when Orli cracked his ribs. The other presentations were okay, Thomas's was especially cool, he's a very nice guy and gave us loads of info about filming LotR. But his best part was the workshop today, which I'll talk about later. I got him to autograph a pretty picture of him as Deagol.
I left before the auction to go see Guy's thing, which was really cool. He answered all our questions and sang a bunch of songs and after that I felt like since I was so tired and I had already gotten pretty much everything I wanted I wouldn't really enjoy the concert, so I gave Clare my ticket. I went to the banquet at BOBW instead. Adele made a whole big deal out of my birthday, but I can't pretend I was unhappy about that afterwards coz I did like the attention later on, that was cool. I had to go dance with all the guests. That night was so much fun! The guests mostly got really, really into it, particularly Andy, Thomas, Brett, Mike and Daniel. I danced with Brett which was a challenge but really cool, and Andy, who taught me how to dance properly and nearly broke my toenail off in the process (ouch!). He was a hairdresser before doing stunts.
Sunday - Sunday I actually got to sleep for about 6 or 7 hours, which was good. Sunday night was the wrap party (last night), which kind of started off slowly, so Vicki, Alissa and I ran off to see the end of Idol (for well over an hour.) YAY CASEY!!!!!!! I'm so glad she won!!! Anyway, we went back downstairs to discover that apparently some of the guests had been in the pool and throwin other people in the pool and stuff. Most of the other guys left and I hung around first to talk to my mate Julian who was my cameraman for the film project last semester, and then to hang out with Dre at the bar. The bar was heaps of fun, I got to talk quite a lot with Daniel and Andy in particular, very cool. Andy's just the nicest guy. He took a photo with me :D Stephen Ure was very, very, very drunk. Those guys went through SO MUCH alcohol, I would NOT want to see their bar tab. We were kicked out of the bar at about 3:30 and I stayed in a room with Dre that night, but we didn't get a lot of sleep and I was up really early.
Monday - once we got ourselves out of bed Luke and I had to say goodbye to Dre and Mara and then we went to Thomas's workshop, which was so cool for me because he told us all about what it's actually like directing for a living and how a set operates, and then he did a writing session with us because his DVD didn't work. We all sat around and wrote about a guy who lost his leg in a freak boating accident and ended up with two left feet, very cute. He is so damn cool. Then I waited for a taxi with Luke and this afternoon I went to a work meeting and I think that's just about everything!
Phew. Here are a few pics of some of the guys who went to the con, I don't have my own photos back yet but I'll post them as soon as I get them. Basically, I'm only posting the guests I really liked talking to :p

Glad to hear the rest of the con was fun, and that I didn't miss anything too earth shattering. OMFG, Weatherly was spitting? PLAGUE?
