Ian Thorpe - the Australian Paris Hilton?

No really, think on that for a bit while I talk about my day. I was called in for work this afternoon, and went out for a rather nice dinner with the family tonight, very hot waiter. Before that I watched Oprah and the Wayans brothers were on it and they were really, really cool. I want to see In Living Colour now.

SAMWISE GAMGEE

The first time I read Lord of the Rings I literally skipped to all the Sam&Frodo bits (then the Merry&Pippin bits, then everything else.) I loved Samwise Gamgee from the moment I set eyes on his description in the books, and to this day he remains one of my all-time favourite literary characters. He's the most beautiful, amazing and most importantly loyal creatures ever created, and obviously it was this loyalty that drew me to him. The way he gives everything up for friendship without asking why. He's the real hero of the story; without him the ring never would have been destroyed. And we all know that in the end he went to the Grey Havens, crossed to the Undying Lands and ended up with Frodo, right? Right. Seriously though, "I can't carry it for you but I can carry you" is one of my FAVOURITE lines of all time. The movie totally ruined "You can't go through Mordor in naught but your skin" for me, but in the books that scene really hit me too. He was an incredible friend and, later (after the books finished) a devoted mayor and father, a leader. I love Sam. I can only hope that if I was asked to do what he did I would be able to.















SEAN ASTIN

Sean Astin is one of the most friendly, open, honest and sincere people I've ever met. He just a warmth and a glow about him, and he patiently answers (okay, goes on and on about) every question you ask him. I find it endearing of course. He really loves his family so much, and he's so principled. I know he takes things too seriously a lot of the time but mostly it's only because he cares so deeply, and he can be dorky and funny and sweet as well. Plus he's just gorgeous. I love Sean, and I hate all the bitching about him in fandom, so if you don't like him please don't comment on this post - I respect your opinion and all but having actually met the man I don't want to hear anything against him, thanks. He's not perfect but nobody is.







































































































astin_daily is a good Sean Astin community, and tinalikesstuff has been celebrating Sean Astin Month so there's a *ton* of hires photos over there.

It's insane, this has never happened before: my "friend of" list is now longer than my "friends" list. And yet I've been feeling rather lonely lately.

The A-List is a bad naughty site and I love it.

ETA3: Apparently, I am collecting quite a harem at the Bronze. So far I've got Buffy, Kennedy and Cordelia as my bitches. Which is interesting.

Since I'm not from or in Australia, I probably can't comment with any real support for my opinion, but isn't Ian Thorpe famous for being a wicked awesome swimmer? I mean, I watched him swim in the Olympics and was just florred by him. He's fantastic. Paris Hilton, however, is famous for being rich and talentless. So, on first instinct, that's my response.

But, please, do tell why he would be considered the Australian Paris Hilton. My interest is piqued.

Oh-and great pics of Sean. That was a nice thing to see first thing in the morning. :)

LOL well yeah, he is a fantastic swimmer. He's also a total "metrosexual", big in the fashion industry, will go to the opening of an envelope, and has come up with this ridiculous thing where he tries to promote things by saying they're "fully sick", which is an Australian expression more often used by Lebanese/Greek/Italian Australians, which he's not. And Paris has that "loves it" thing.

And that's why I think Ian Thorpe is the Australian Paris Hilton.

I like that he's a metrosexual. I'm not sure I could date someone who takes more time to get ready than I do, but I do enjoy a man who is well dressed with nice hair and good shoes. As for the "catch phrase" thing...well, that happens everywhere I guess. Look at all the people who started putting "izzle" in all of their words, for example. It doesn't mean I think he's cool for doing it though. I mean, if I have to hear Paris Hilton say "that's hot" one more time, I think my head might explode. God, I hate her.

Aww, I was just teasing, I don't really think he's the Aussie Paris Hilton. I just thought it was funny. Ian's all right, he was really nice to my sister when we met him, she's a big fan of his. I prefer Grant Hackett though. Hot and *such* a sweetie.
