Apparently there are gay/lesbian rights groups up in arms because the scientists are trying to force the penguins to go straight. I dunno, I didn't get that impression from the article. More that they were testing to see if they *were* straight and misisng females, but they're getting in extra males in case it doesn't work.
No, I didn't get that impression, either. I suppose it's only right that they want to study the phenomenon, and have got new females to try...I don't think they want them to be straight...
The couple with the stone as an egg was the highlight for me!!!! And, to be honest, do homosexual animals fall under the same scrutiny as homosexual humans, due the fact that they are instinctual and we supposedly have free will & knowledge???? lmao!
what if the females are lesbians, then they would have 10 gay penguins, and that would leave the 2 other males with each other and if they started a mating pair then you would have a total of 12 gay penguins...
that would definitely be a rather high statistical portion of the penguin population that was gay...
and then i though what if the penguins are endangered because there is an unusually high statistical portion of the population that is gay. not enough boy/girl penguin couples to increase the population... i know with pandas they are now artificially inseminating the female pandas, but that is just because no pandas seem to like to umm... get together at all.
i think i made my brain hurt...
only i could do that... take something cute and go nuts with it.
Unless they tend to react like a human all-gay community would to reproduce - donors...and there are many lesbian couples who have a guy friend sleep with one of them (saves all that donor & fertilization lab fees that way)....they could survive!!!! So, maybe ALL penguins are actually gay?
The scientists seemed surprised and the penguins they have at that zoo aren't breeding, so I'm assuming this is an unusual occurence. But if this were true it'd be very, very cool XD
Well the article says they have a hard time separating the penguins, and only one couple seems to have adopted. Looks to me like they have some free will too :)
