Because Douglas Adams specifically said that when a movie was made, the only charactor that HAD to be Brittish was Arthur Dent. He actually wanted the casting to be more diverse.

I'm sure he did and it doesn't bother me with Zaphod but Ford spoke with an American accent in my head. It's probably just my own bias.

They all have American accents in my head... as with any book I read, unless a movie version comes out and the people have other accents.
I understand the bias, a lot of people feel the same way, I just don't agree. I'm glad you're not one of the people complaining becuase Ford is black, though. Those people piss me off.

Pfft, I don't care about that. I don't think I even noticed in the trailer, what with the accent. But since Ford lived in England while on Earth I assumed he would have a British accent, you see?

True, I hadn't really thought about that... he'd been in England for something like 7 years too. I'd at least pick up some of the accent after that amount of time, and I'm VERY American. Hmm. I don't think it's going to bother me to distraction, but I'll be thinking about that now!

I've become far too attached to the gay penguins and their adopted rock, though I wish somebody would give the poor things a real egg, for God's sake! (I'm getting such a feeling of deja vu, I'd swear I've argued this point before...) I hope they get further news coverage - they're an incredible mood-improver!
