So, yes, I'm back, did you miss me?
While I was away I went to a few people's houses, played a lot of Sims, got my headspace all sorted out kind of sort of mostly...well, who cares, I missed LiveJournal. *pets the pretty LJ* and I got the assignment in, which is what matters. Even if it was 2 weeks late.
As you know, I went up to Sydney for the Serenity screening on Wednesday of last week, and it was fan-fucking-tastic. Not just the movie but getting to hang out with
natatree and
greedy_dancer (who I was very rude to I fear) and seeing
rosemending (however briefly) who kindly let me stay at her place. I also met Crypto from the Bronze, which was pretty damn nifty. In Sydney they look at you funny if you break into song or start dancing. Freaks.
This was a really, really good feelgood flick. It wasn't corny or cheesy, it had an anti-corporate message, and Dennis Quaid and Topher Grace were incredible. I didn't even hate Scarlett Johansson. The dialogue is almost disturbingly realistic and the movie's just really, really good without being pretentious or over the top. Loved it.
Less good. I dunno, I think a lot of the people who went with me will disagree (honestly, I have to stop sitting next to Tom at the movies, he always gets annoyed with me when I do) but seriously, what was wrong with the book that they had to change so much? It started off really, really well - the Guide was great, I could buy Zaphod and Ford being American (Trillian less so) but then as soon as Trillian got kidnapped by the Vogons it went rapidly downhill. I mean there were a few laughs (mostly coming from gags from the books, like the sperm whale and bowl of petunias - YAY - and Marvin) but generally the love story (which felt squashed and out of place), the random visiting of other planets and that bloody Point of View gun were rather useless. All it did was serve to make me very confused and hopeful that soon something would happen that I recognised. And biggest gripe - WHY DID THEY SAY ZAPHOD SIGNED THE ORDER TO HAVE EARTH DESTROYED?! Seriously.
That said, I really liked Sam Rockwell as Zaphod, and I just loved Marvin. So much so that I stole him. Or rather a cardboard cut-out of him, which my friends helped me pinch at the end of the film when nobody was around. We ran to the car amidst much cheering, which was amusing. So now I have Marvin in my room.
Also, the So Long and Thanks for All the Fish song is genius, esp. with the dolphin footage.
I bought new clothes. Brown skirt, pink and brown top, and THE COOLEST SLIPEPRS EVER. They're green and fuzzy and cool. Spent far too much money and am now broke.
I'm fairly sure that's about it. I'm sure somebody will tell me if I did anything else remotely interesting.
Song of the Day:
Stuck in the Middle with You - Stealer's Wheel
Because I've been listening to it SO MUCH lately and I love it and it's the bestest ever.
Link of the Day: Be the Pope of you.
Okay, the first lot of Pics of the Day are a bunch of pics from the Kingdom of Heaven premiere, as well as a few of Orli on TRL and one of Dom from a video he and the other Losties made because they couldn't go to D:LA. The KoH ones are just an assortment of my favourites, so you KNOW they'll be weird. If you want normal, go to
tinalikesstuff.

"No, really, I am prettier than Orli! Look at ME!"

SCORE

That whole closing one eye, leaving the other open thing is TOUGH for a man with only a few expressions.

*dies, and is dead.*
beizy has a video of the hug!
