So I've FINALLY seen Garden State.

I really enjoyed it, but I didn't think it was the same film everyone's been going on about for so long! Certainly one of the best and cutest indie films I've seen in a while and I loved Peter Saarsgard (sp?) in it. I have head size issues and watching Zach Braff and Natalie together hurt my eyes. But otherwise it was very sweet.

Also saw Team America: World Police tonight at [livejournal.com profile] tuatha_de and [livejournal.com profile] sherrif_topato's place, and [livejournal.com profile] melissajane14 came too. Those guys are awesome. *hint hint* Except that Tom hurt my arm and now the top of it's slightly purple. Which is really my own fault.

Spent most of the rest of the day sleeping and trying to get rid of my stupid yucky cold that I have.

Link of the Day: I Heart Jake Media. Don't be put off by the godawful site name, the gallery is EXCELLENT.
*snerk* The Story of 42 Below Zero. LMAO!

Two songs from Team America: World Police as Songs of the Day, because I just saw it tonight and I was reminded of how utterly funny it really is.

Pearl Harbour Sucked by Trey Parker
SO TRUE. SO VERY, VERY TRUE.

Montage by Trey Parker
My favourite film geeky moment in the movie. Hilarious.

Okay, Pics of the Day are coming in the next post - Dom went to the Batman Begins premiere! Spam coming up.

I promise you I will never die - 37 days

I am so intellectually in love with Trey Parker. He's a genius. Love your icon. :)

I have to agree with you on Garden State. Yes, I own it and yes I saw it in the theater, but seriously folks. I know a girl who saw it 4 times in the theater, saying it changed her life. Her mother also saw it in the theater, twice. I thought it was a really nice first film, but very derivative in that you could point to certain scenes and see what the influence was. Quentin Tarantino does the same thing, but he's a little less obvious in his choices.

Good soundtrack though, which I have, if you want.

Ooh, I'd love some of the songs from the soundtrack! It was great.

I wouldn't judge the film harshly. For a first effort it was DAMN good. Very creative, and I liked the characterisations. I liked the easy interactions between the cast and the uneasy ones too - it worked nicely. But I didn't think it was earth-shattering.

I'm one of those people that was just overwhelmed by Garden State. I don't know if it's my age and the fact that I seriously can relate to the characters - especially the numbness that Large feels throughout most of the movie - or if it's just one of those unexplainable things where it just hit me in the exact correct way at the exact right moment. It's a movie that instantly became a part of me, in the way that Goonies and Lord of the Rings and Donnie Darko and Never Been Kissed are. I thought it was beautiful and touching and poingnent and sweet and sad. And such an amazing first film. Zach has so much talent, and I can't wait to see what he does next.

I, too, became entranced by Peter Sarsgaard. And the soundtrack is one of the best ever compiled.

Oh, and thanks for the songs. Those are the two that I don't have. :) Do you have "America, Fuck Yeah?" I can upload it for you if you don't. Funniest song ever.

I don't have that one, I'd love it! Thanks.
I also have "Everyone Has AIDS" but I didn't feel like uploading it. :S

I think I was looking at it too much from a critical standpoint for all of that to happen. But it certainly didn't speak to me the way it seems to have done with you.

Mmm. I don't think I could write an essay on the American military. I dislike it too much. I'd end up getting cranky.
