Well, I've read it.
That was quite an experience. I was bang on with my estimate of it taking 7 hours, by the way - it took me 6 hours 58 minutes. I've been saying for ages that Dumbledore was going to go soon. I have the oddest feeling that he wanted Snape to kill him, you know. The whole thing about Snape was interesting - I knew once Harry started reading the book that it had belonged to Snape. So, is he a bad guy or a good guy? What about Malfoy? I get the feeling that Snape was protecting Malfoy just as Dumbledore had protected Harry. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it, and Snape is just a bad guy.
The majority of the book didn't feel as dark as I'd expected, to be honest. It all felt very much like the calm before the storm. There's a LOT of underlying sweetness to the whole thing, and a lot of humour in there as well. Harry seems to have really come into his own - I'm liking him more all the time. He's become the hero everybody wanted him to be, and not the disturbed boy he was in the last book.
The part at Spinner's End (spiders much?) with Cissy, Bella and Snape was fascinating in the extreme - so incredibly human, with such interesting characters.
Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny, hmm? No great surprises there. I reckon Harry will come back to Hogwarts - mostly because whatever happens, whatever great showdown occurs, I have the distinct feeling that it will happen there. Poor old Bill, though Phlegm (lmao) turned out to be pretty cool.
I just love Luna, seriously, how funny is she? Particularly her commentary on the Quidditch match. She's just such an awesome character. There were a lot of new names featured but this book had a very strong (almost Buffy-like and, while I'm at it, Chosen One?!?) focus on the four central characters -Buffy Harry, Xander Ron, Willow Hermione and Giles Dumbledore. Speaking of which, did anyone catch the name Proudfoot? Cute little LotR reference.
It did feel a bit like reading fanfiction, what with all the romance going on, which was somewhat strange.
I'm sure I'm going to have an awful lot more to say at a later date after reading everybody else's thoughts, but for now I'll leave it with this:
So. Who's R.A.B?
The cover's still butt ugly.

I mean, if I really, really put my mind to it, I'll be finished by about midnight, so thats a pretty good effort, but on first reading, I want to take my time. *hides eyes from spoilers like WOAH*

I like Dumbledore much more in this book than before. I like when he's honest with Harry and trusting Harry. Harry needed that. And...I think I need sleep as the sentences are starting to blend together on the page.
Went to the Midnight Madness Potter Party here...sat in line for almost 5 hours. It was fun though...lots of things to keep you occupied. I think I'll do it again for the next book, but next time I'm going to pre-order the book and wear a costume!
I would have been upset about reading your post..but as someone had scanned page *606* and posted it online two days ago...I already knew. Boy was I disappointed when I got the book and flipped to that page only to see that it was indeed a real scan and not a fake.
anyway...g'night!

I started reading at 1:30 AM, and finished at 6:30 AM, and I just have no god damn idea what to make of any of it, I really really don't.
I think it's going to be a while before I can form an opinion at all.
I... think I liked it?

Me too. Me too! At least I think he wanted to be kille either by Draco or by Snape
get the feeling that Snape was protecting Malfoy just as Dumbledore had protected Harry
Me too. I think he just killed Dumbledore because of this vow in the beginning.... O.o I can´t believe he´s really the bad guy. But on the other side... nobody of the Order would believe Snape if he came back to them...
and yes.. It was like reading Fanfic *rofl* I think everybody got that feeling.

PhlegmFleur would be all shallow and dump Bill because he got bit, but i was wrong!I noticed Proudfoot, its so gonna egg my mum on, she is sure that Harry Potter is a rip off of LOTR, but it doesnt stop her watch it
I was shocked when Dumbledore died, especially after he had just not died trying to get the Horcrux...it shocked me, but i thought it was good that Snape be the one that killed him...
I wanna know who R.A.B is too!!!

I'm still trying to find an excuse for Snape. I have many theories, each less likely than the last.
It's weird. Every thing I had predicted-who died, who the half blood prince was, who would hook up--came true (except Ron and Lavender. That annoying bit of story came a bit out of left field. I really wanted to shoot myself then, but then again, it was about 3 in the morning then having not gotten any sleep the previous night, and I'm now dead on my feet, so maybe on a second read I will tolerate it better).
Also, Remus and Tonks? WHAT. Did everyone's hormones burst into life in this book?
Like I said above, my only take on R.A.B. is Regulus.
I'm still debating my overall take on it. I think I like it. I need to read it again.

I'm still thinking about Snape too. And I liked the Ron & Lavender bit, it seemed very realistic - Ron was desperate.
I KNOW. What is it, springtime in Harry Potter land?

I agree that Ron/Lavender was realistic because Ron was desperate, but it surprised me that she would like him. She often appeared so scandalized by him in classes like Divination and sorts, though to her, looks seem to be most everything, and from descriptions in the book Ron appearts to have matured, like Harry, quite a bit. I just was disappointed in his attitude towards Hermione and how he released his...I dunno, jealousy, almost. This is the part of the book I want to reread most, because I remember next to none of it and I was getting highly irratated while reading it simply because I was so exhausted.
WOAH long comment. SORRY!!
