Yes I'm making a separate post because I feel like it. I also finished the rest of the beer in the house while watching Idol (what? The folks are coming home tomorrow and they're not having my beer!) so if anything doesn't make sense I'm blaming it on the tipsy.
I LOVE BIG BAND NIGHT. In case you missed that point in my last post. In fact, I think next year I'm going to buy tickets and go up to Sydney just for Big Band Night, because I LOVE it.
Lee (Straighten Up & Fly Right): I always thought that Lee would completely sink when it came to big band night but he did a really good job if you ask me. I love that song and I think he looked awesome, and did a pretty good job vocally. He's still probably the weakest male voice in the contest but he did a nice job tonight and I liked him. He's still smart enough to pick the right songs for himself. Kyle should NOT have been allowed to judge after completely dismissing the genre. Also, Kyle has no taste.
Milly (Get Happy): This was definitely Milly's forte but I'm starting to think Idol isn't. I mean yeah, she did a good job and she looked great, but she's just not as good as the others in this contest.
Dan Spillane (Feeling Good): I love this song when Michael Buble does it. Daniel didn't blow it completely, but it definitely wasn't the best. Once the band kicked in and he had to sing over it he really soared, but when it was just him up there by himself he faltered a lot.
Anne (Minnie the Moocher): This was my favourite performance of the night, well above Emily's to me, but it's a bit like Oscar movies - Minnie the Moocher just isn't a Touchdown song, you can't get that kind of emotion out of it. She did a GREAT job scatting and looked awesome, and in my opinion made best use of the band out of anybody.
I'd like to say at this point that the band were fabulous and I LOVE JOHN FOREMAN. If John Foreman and Alfonso Cuaron were to somehow breed their children would be the most brilliant children in the entertainment industry. That's not a weird thought at all.
James (Sway): I actually really liked James's performance. That might just be because I've had that song on my playlist for the last few days, but I thought he did a really nice job of it, particularly (again) when he had to compete with the band to make himself heard. I also liked the second half after the key change.
Emily (All the Way): Her outfit was really, really weird. In fact out of all the contestants I definitely think she looked worst tonight. Anyway, that was a very beautiful and very touching performance, and I knew it would get a touchdown. It wasn't my favourite (I don't like Emily that much) but it was lovely.
Dan England (Whisper Your Name): You know, I wish they'd encourage people who are consistent more, because if a contestant's all over the place they heavily praise performances that are as good as Dan is every week and was tonight. I thought he looked HOT, but then I like guys in white jackets (see: Dom's sex jacket.) I appreciated his use of the band and I just LOVE his voice, it's so great and kinda sexy. I wish he'd put the falsetto in there thought :S
Kate (Cry Me a River): She looked so great, I loved the sparkly thing in her hair and the pose at the beginning (MUCH better than Hayley's last year.) She has the most amazing voice and I like that even on her big strong notes she doesn't shout like Emily does, but I did think she could've given it more emotional depth (kill me, I'm agreeing with Mr. Whippy.) I think the fact that I love Ella SO MUCH makes me a little biased, but I can't help it.
Meanwhile, I LOVED James tonight. And John Foreman. Can we vote for them for Australian Idol? James said he and James were going to do it tonight >:D and James was being really dirty again, bless his cottons.
Top Three: Anne, Kate, Dan (I'm sorry, I just can't like Emily)
BottomThree Two: Milly, Daniel
Out: Milly (I'd like to see her get to do Big Band again)

Hee, James Matheson just cracks me up. I love him so much, without him the show would be that much harder to get through. I even love the stupid bug-eyed face he makes while they prolong reading out the name. Does that man ever blink?!
