so. buggered.
Uni this morning and work this afternoon, which were both actually loads of fun. Uni was a tutorial on Trainspotting, which I managed to see about half an hour of before class so I was sort of prepared. I've seen it before, too, when I was about 14, but all I could think then was how cool I was for sneaking off with the older kids to watch a movie none of us were allowed to see. I don't think I got it. Work at the after-school care program's been good because the other kids have a tendency to follow Luke around and get very protective of him, which is less work with me - I actually spent a large portion of outside play time playing piggy in the middle (ETA: or monkey in the middle, or keep away, and do you lot just troll around people's journals looking for comments about kids' games? *g*) with some of the older kids, which was good. However a lot of energy was expended and now my shoulders are very sore and I'm TIRED.
Daniel...is boring. But that was a BEAUTIFUL rendition of a song that I really love. He's so much better when there's no pressure, it's astounding. This was one of my standout performances of the night. Is anyone else sick of those screens behind the performers?
Kate...shouldn't have performed Ironic. Not because she did a particularly bad job, but because her voice is too big for it. And you just don't perform Alanis. I think Kate has the ocker Aussie Shannon Noll vote going to her though, particularly judging by the cheers when she talked about being a dag.
Lee sang. With singing! And he picked a STONE TEMPLE PILOTS song! I sat with my jaw on the floor through the whole thing, because dude, SINGING. It's like Orlando Bloom acting, it doesn't compute. He wasn't terrific but he wasn't too bad at all.
James: There are other much less wholesome things you could be doing with your Friday nights.
G: Like what, James?
James: I...wouldn't know. Why would you ask *me* that question?
G: I don't know, just...thinking about what *we* were doing last Friday night...*cracks himself up while James's face is completely blank*
I LOVE MY HOSTS.
I knew Anne would do Beyonce. She IS Beyonce these days, its' kind of embarassing. She looked good, but still, Beyonce, please, kill me. I don't think she has the personality to carry her through this competition. I'm surprised by how many of this year's contestants have been rejected in previous years.
Dan playing didgeridoo = HOT. Well, Dan is hot anyway, but that was hot, and I loved the song he performed, it was kinda awesome - as was picking such a dark song. I liked Dan and Lee's choices most tonight, they were really intriguing. HE LOVES JAMES.
Emily was really good tonight as well, except for the yelly bits, but come on, does she always have to cry at the drop of a hat?
Why do they let stupid questions through? YAWN. James was really unimpressed, which was funny. Also, James Kannis got no fewer than four mentions tonight - usually, once a contestant leaves, they're GONE. But tonight he got love from Daniel, Dan, Kate and Emily. He's obviously really popular. Also, watching the Up Close & Personal special last year, I was so completely unimpressed with everybody that, to me, Guy coming out and singing a relatively crappy new song of his was still the highligh of the night. He completely blew last year's contestants out of the water. This year, though, I felt everybody else was at least as good as Anthony (I'd forgotten just how *tiny* our Italian shetland pony really is!) G and James aren't hosting this week's Idol together :( no banter! How will I cope?
It looks like I'll have Lost 2.05 ...And Found by tomorrow, so I can watch it after lunch :D yay!
If you like Harry Potter there's some GoF music and video clips at The Leaky Cauldron. Well, via TLC, but from HPANA. It's good stuff. You get to see the ferret scene.
Song of the Day: The Drugs Don't Work by Ben Harper
I first heard this song on a CD my cousin gave me before he stopped trying to get me into 'good' music and then stopped, you know, talking to me altogether or acting like a human being. The first time I heard it I fell in love with it. It's very, very sad, but it's also poignant and lovely. Go forth and download!

Because Dom paints his nails fire engine red. With pretty little stars and lovehearts. I might've made the last bit up.
Maggie batch #4 for

Once I get it fixed, I will. Unless you can find it before then. It's a beautiful song.

I'll go hunting for the original, thanks!

I have this one memory of it from this summer that makes me kinda want to cry. It was the evening of the day my aunt got married and a bunch of us were sitting around a fire. My new uncle was playing his guitar and my aunt was singing that song. She's got such a wonderful voice. And when she finished, my other uncle, her brother (who has been halfway across the country for about the last 9 years) said "Wow, how many times have I missed that?"
I got all misty. It was so sad and beautiful. Thanks for reminding me of it. *hugs*
