Can you think of a better birthday present than a gay cowboy update?

30 minute interview with Ang Lee - I haven't downloaded it yet.

There are some colourbars here but I'm betting someone on my flist could make a better one... *bats eyelids*

Ang Lee's 'Brokeback' explores 'last frontier'

Newsweek Article.
The day Jake Gyllenhaal was cast in "Brokeback," the chatter around the industry was not about what a wise choice he'd made. "It's the most stupid move he could make," said one top producer over lunch that afternoon. "It'll alienate his teen-girl fan base and could kill his career. What a waste."
LOL they obviously don't know the teen-girl fan base that I know. For my sister's 15th birthday I'm taking her to see Brokeback Mountain. She's stoked. Seriously, I could have gotten her a car and she'd be less excited.

In an early meeting, Schamus told Lee that, from a marketing standpoint, they were making this film for one core audience. "Yes, of course," Lee said. "The gay audience." No, Schamus said. "Women."
Now, HE gets it.

When it came time to design the poster for the film, Schamus didn't research posters of famous Westerns for ideas. He looked at the posters of the 50 most romantic movies ever made. "If you look at our poster," he says, "you can see traces of our inspiration, 'Titanic'."
...okay, you know what? I want to quote the whole article. So just go read it. The only sad thing is that some blogger apologised for calling it a gay cowboy film...but I've ranted about that often enough, I think.

So what's big deal? Some cowpunchers in Wyoming are gay - this one's in response to this article that I linked in my last post.

Proulx shoots holes in mythic Wyoming (you have to scroll down for this one) - an older article about the book.

Mountain Man - Jake gets himself all exited about his girlfriend who lives in Canada Alberta. Aww, Maggie cried at the movie!

Me and my brother we...we went
and got ourselves some work on a
ranch up near Worland. Until I was
nineteen. He got married and ahh...
no more room for me. That's how
come ahh... me end up here. What?

Silence

Jack looks over to Ennis, smiles.

ENNIS (cont'd)
...What?

JACK
Friend, that's more words than you've
spoke in the past two weeks.

Ennis smiles for the first time.

ENNIS
Two weeks? Hell, its the most
I've spoke in a year.

Is it gay cowboy month yet?
