Top Five Movies that Aren't Well Known ([livejournal.com profile] darkspectre)

5. Highway. It's not even that great a movie but Jake Gyllenhaal and Jared Leto are in it and it's very cute.
4. Super Troopers. Though that seems to be a lot more famous now. Regardless, it's very funny.
3. Fever Pitch. It's a romantic comedy THAT I LIKED! OMG crazy. It's got Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon in it and it was very cute without being sickening. But yeah, nobody saw it.
2. Urga (Close to Eden). It's a...Russian film set in Mongolia. Oh yeah. It's about a family getting condoms, and it's really, really good.
1. Chance. It's practically unknown because it was made entirely by Amber Benson (Tara of Buffy fame) and she only sold it through this one website, but it's really surprisingly good and charming, and she's lovely.

Top Five Slash Ships, any fandom ([livejournal.com profile] waterofthemoon)

5. Clark/Lex, Smallville. I don't even watch the show anymore, but I really, really like this pairing. There's a lot of sexual tension right there.

4. Remus/Sirius, Harry Potter (and [info]shoebox_project.) They have a really good chemistry and they just seem to complete each other perfectly. Also, doesn't it seem suspicious that someone as enormously attractive as Sirius and someone as sweet as Remus never hooked up with *anyone*? Okay, Sirius was in jail for a long time, but he didn't have anyone before that, and Remus didn't get anyone until *after* Sirius died.

3. Sam/Frodo, Lord of the Rings. I'm telling you, it's about as canon as a slash ship gets. I've always felt that Rosie was just a convenience, but at least Sam goes to join Frodo in the end.

2. Crowley/Aziraphale, Good Omens. They are, in fact, sort of my ultimate slash ship and would be number one if it weren't for Dom & Billy. Crowley is a demon who's become humanised by living on Earth since the garden of Eden, Aziraphale is an angel with the same deal, and they're 'friends' by virtue of being the only person who's been around that long. But they're just perfect for each other. They're like a really, really old married couple - Crowley destroys something a little and Aziraphale miracles something else a little and it all works out.

1. Dom/Billy, because there is nothing sweeter in the entire world and hell, even if they aren't in love they definitely love each other.

The little one on the right, though Shia is also awesome, of course. Anyway, Khleo's also in Badaaaaassss and a terrible movie I saw on the Disney channel and he's just a cool little actor.

4. Mekhi Phifer

He's awesome. And really hot.

3. Michael Pitt

He's actually fairly famous but he's incredible, even though he's largely only been in crap.

2. Dash Mihok

This guy's been in a bunch of movies and I always just like him. He's in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Romeo + Juliet, The Day After Tomorrow and The Thin Red Line to start with. Plus he dated Alanis Morissette for a while and danced (exceedingly well) with her in one of her videos, for So Pure. I kind of love him.

1. Clea DuVall

Clea has been in Buffy, Carnivale, Girl, Interrupted, The Faculty, But I'm a Cheerleader, 21 Grams and Can't Hardly Wait. I think she kicks ass and she deserves a really, really kickass role in a big movie. Soon.

Oooh, some surprises (for me) in those actor picks! Oh Jake...just saw Brokeback last night. Kind of amusing was the fact that my mother was going on and on about Jake's looks before the film had even started. Oy.

Aish! Love her to pieces. If some day you did a picspam of her I would love you forever. But no pressure, you've already given me so much! And I adore that picture of her. The colors are beautiful...and as always, so is she!

Ian McKellan. Another fantastic choice. Last year I was abroad in England and for a day I went with my class to the Stratford archives...and found a young picture of him which made me so happy..and everyone just kept giving me odd looks.

Rickman...it's his voice for me. So unique! That and the moment in Dogma when he shows that he looks like a Ken doll. Hilrious. I've loved him in every role I've seen him in.

Really, you like Dom? Huh, I never knew that about you. Jk. Excellent choice. I hope you get to make your movie one day :)

If you're out of top 5 I'll give you two more (but I understand if you're top-5ed out):

Top 5 actors/actresses from non-english-speaking countries
Top 5 movies from your childhood

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I was trying to balance really good actors with hotasses. And my favourite actress of all time is unfortunately deceased, so I couldn't use her.

Top Five Actors/Actresses from Non-English Speaking Countries:

5. Thomas Kretschmann

Image
Granted, I know nothing about him and have only seen him in Kong, but I'm willing to find out. *drools*

4. Jean-Paul Belmondo

Image
I did an assignment on him once.

3. Aishwarya Rai

Image
She's gorgeous but she's also an actually decent actress.

2. Diego Luna

1. Gael Garcia Bernal

What can I say? I'm shallow and I love Y Tu Mama Tambien.

I would have put Penelope Cruz on here too if she'd never been in any of the crap American movies she's been in. She's fantastic in Spanish.

Oh really? Whos' your favorite actress of all time?

5. Thomas Kretschmann: Oh goodness, I suppose I really should see King Kong now! Where's he from?

4. Jean-Paul Belmondo: Last year when I was abroad I took a tutorial on french cinema. I can't tell you the number of films I've seen him in. But I'm not complaining! There's something just so charasmatic about him that I get sucked into every film I've watched with him in it. I think the first one I ever saw was when I was in middle school and I believe it was called That Man from Rio which I saw because someone told me it was basically a french Indiana Jones. (You needed to know that right?)

3. Aishwarya Rai: Right, I think we've been over my love for her. The Queen of Bollywood...once again, an actor who is so amazingly charasmatic. Plus, she seems kind and intelligent from the view interviews I've seen. Oh yeah, and she's gorgeous.

4 & 5 - Luna & Bernal: As soon as I saw Luna I knew Bernal would be number one. These two are inseperable. Bernal is actually my second favorite modern actor overall (I only have two permanently on my list). I love him to pieces. He was in a play last year in London and I was so upset when I found out that every single performance had been sold out! Meh. But so much love. He's so talented. I also have a fondness for Luna though not as large...probably because I haven't seen him in much. Y Tu Mama...ok that' unforgetable. But then I saw him in Dirty Dancing 2...not exactly a fan. And The Terminal, which was cute, but not outstanding.

Look how I babble! I'll put the rest of my thoughts in a new comment so as not to overwhlem you.

From: [identity profile] neuilly.livejournal.com

Ah! Sorry about the italics! I really wish there was a way to edit comments.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Katharine Hepburn. I adore her.

He's really fantastic and he's sych a physical actor.

She does give off an intelligent vibe.

Ugh, Gael Garcia Bernal is utterly and ridiculously fantastic, and so unafraid of doing what he wants.
I saw Diego Luna in Criminal with Maggie Gyllenhaal and ...Scott C. Reilly, I think it is. He was actually really good in that, I thought.

From: [identity profile] neuilly.livejournal.com

Oh, Katharine Hepburn is wonderful! I somehow knew you were going to say her. She's my mother's favorite actress and I'm quite fond of her myself. I just love her attitude. She's intelligent and witty and yet she never comes off as pretentious or stuck-up really. Wonderful woman. I think that's what I really love about Bernal...he truly chooses scripts and movies that mean something to him. He's lucky that he's able to do that and still get a decent salary! But it's why all of his performances are amazing. *adds criminal to netflix list as well* I feel like Luna really is talented but he's just been picking up some fairly mediocre roles. But things are looking up so I'll keep an eye out for his future films.

Thanks! It was made by [livejournal.com profile] theoldvicarage who makes lots of icons of older films/actors. I took one look at it and burst out laughing. Such a good film, and that icon makes me so happy. (So does yours by the way...if only i could dance!)

From: [identity profile] neuilly.livejournal.com

Indiana Jones! I loved those movies when I was little (ok, I still love them now...perhaps I should buy them) Anyhoo, my local movie rental store was extremely small but they had those three films and I used to alternate between them everytime my mom would let me rent a film.

4. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang...another film I loved. Toot sweets! I always wanted one...even if they did end up being for dogs. Just such a fun romp of a movie.

3. An American in Paris: I've sadly never seen this. I've heard so many good things about it and I adore Gene Kelly. So many movies and so little time!

2: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: Loved this! Some of my friends were freaked out by it but I always thought it was awesome. I almost died of shock when they said they were remaking it. This is the one that will alwys be in my heart though.

1. Singin' in the Rain: Honestly, when I saw you post this I went to my TV and popped in the film. 'nuff said.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

You know the ballet sequence in Singin' in the Rain? I've always found it completely distracting. It's pretty but it goes off on a complete tangent from the plot and doesn't fit the tone of the movie IMHO.

An American in Paris also has a ballet sequence where he dances with the main girl. It works SO much better and is probably even a better sequence. I love Singin' in the Rain, but that's one thing American in Paris has all over it.

I LIKED being freaked out by Willy Wonka!

From: [identity profile] neuilly.livejournal.com

Yeah, the ballet scene always took me out of the movie...it always reminded me of Oklahoma which does the same thing. Anyhoo...I would love to see one that actually works with the movie! *goes to find netflix list*
