Nicholas Brendon keeps it in the family.

Why do I get the feeling that's our cutesy bonding quota up for a while? The scene where Dean was filling up the Impala and talking to Sam about lies was a;sdjhsljhdfvaskjnc hot. Well, as is Dean in general really. Bloody Mary was a really good scary ep (and Sam looks far too good with blood running from his eyes), and the car conversation was very interesting, very revealing. Dean really is a total sweetheart under all that - the shapeshifter threw that into really sharp relief. Like the contrast and sharpness filters on the show itself, which are kind of extreme. Seriously. Anyway, back to the show - for some reason Skin reminded me of a much better (sorry, Supes fans) episode of The X-Files called "Hungry" about a guy who needed to eat human brains to survive but wasn't actually a bad guy. It felt like they were trying to tell a story about the shapeshifter himself but didn't do it very well. That episode of The X-Files always really stuck with me, it was good.

...Dean's hot.

"Bloody Mary" is my favorite episode thus far. They managed to mix the creep with the bonding extremely well in that one with a rather unsettling ending. When Dean is telling Sam he wishes he'd just blame him for Jess's death instead of taking it out on himself and Sam says at the end he'd die for Dean, but he couldn't tell him the truth, well, I loved it. There's a lot of discussion as to why Dean's eyes were bleeding too. We originally thought it was bad writing, but most of the fandom doesn't think so any more.

And "Skin", you finally get Dean letting out some of his resentments and issues the only way he could, which is through someone else. There's no way Dean actually would have pushed back at Sam like that since he keeps his cards so close, but he does hate the fact that everyone has walked out on him no matter how good he tried to be. He's lonely and that's not all his choice.

The thing is, Dean probably has a couple of secrets where people were killed. Maybe he felt he wasn't fast enough in killing something. He could conceivably feel guilty for every single death that has occurred after he already knew about the baddie, y'know?
Yeah, the car scenes in Bloody Mary were very, very bittersweet.

I would happily make Dean less lonely.

The episode "Faith" is very much about Dean's issues and you realize just how personally he takes the whole protecting people thing. He's just a mass of guilt issues, really deep seated ones compared to Sam. Dean's hard on himself, probably because his father was hard on him and he sees Sam as his responsibility. I've always found the bonding moments the best things in the show. Jared and Jensen have a great dynamic which makes up for the shaky writing sometimes.

And the thing is, Dean probably wouldn't be so antisocial if he weren't a demon hunter. He sort of forces that on himself, which makes him even more messed up.

Loved the chance to compare the two brothers and the kiss! *L*!

Haven't watched Supernatural, but thanks for the dom pic. Haven't seen that one for a while.
