I HATE CANBERRA WINTERS.
Fucking *cold*. I am not a winter person. I want to live somewhere warm all year round.
I have no idea why, but when I play Nina Simone's 'Feeling Good' on my iTunes the image that comes up is Naveen and Maggie from the UK Lost promo. Not that I'm complaining...
Winace zip file of Ella Fitzgerald songs, because some of you are woefully lacking in the Ella appreciation.
Today I saw Days of Heaven
...well, it's definitely a very pretty movie. Actually, when I saw it in the video store I was convinced I had the wrong movie for a second after seeing Richard Gere on the cover. It seems so strange to watch a critically acclaimed Richard Gere film for class. I always forget he's actually a fairly good actor. He does always seem slightly out of place in an odd way, though.
Anyway, blah blah blah plot and romance and creepy little girl and murder. The real focus of the movie is clearly the visual and auditory experience rather than the story. The costumes, the settings, all the beautiful cinematography is amazing, and the way the sound moves from one scene to the next is really breathtaking. The music by Ennio Morricone is something I've heard a lot but never knew what it was from, it's beautiful, very haunting and so fitting for the landscape. The real story is in the place, not the characters. Which brings me to my criticism of the film.
The realistic dialogue was interesting and made you concentrate, but in the end I felt like I was being made to concentrate on something I just didn't care all that much about. Boring characters, boring story. As a personal preference I'm always much more interested in a good character-driven story than a pretty piece of film - if I don't care about the characters no amount of nice scenery and good music will prevent me from checking my watch or flicking to another channel. Or in this case walking away to do a picspam every fifteen minutes or so. Not exactly riveting. In fact, I think it purposefully distances the characters from the audience, which is just frustrating. I'm investing my time, I want to be given some emotional reward.
I can't give it less than 7 out of 10, because cinematically it's amazing, but as far as a good story and interesting characters you're better off watching pretty much anything else.
Gods, I love the CW. All the very best porn these days is CW RPS, and the boys are so damn pretty. As a result, I am now going to give you CW spam. Jensen Ackles. Jared Padalceki. Jason Dohring. Ryan Hansen. Francis Capra. Michael Rosenbaum. Mostly Jen and Jared, though. Might even get some Tom Welling if you're lucky, and we'll just pretend there's no Mayhem in the mix.

This is one of my favorite picspams in the HISTORY of picspams.
Also, I was never super into Tom Welling, but that pic of him in the water was my background for a good few months when it first came out because it is just too damn pretty.

The best part? My 6 month old neice was looking at it too and totally made girly faces at everyone. Except Jensen. She tried to kiss the screen with him
