I suppose with all the fics I've read it's not surprising that this is one of the scenarios, and it's not like there's any real surprises so far. Mmm, sexy bloody angry Sam. I like. OMG HEY MARSHALL/RANSE!!!! Wow, he just does all my favourite shows. I get the metaphorical importance of having John sacrifice his obsession to save his son, but surely that can't be the best way to ensure Dean's safety?

OK, robbing us of this Dean/Sam bonding moment is just cruel and unusual. Sam's pouring his little heart out and Dean's not there? MEAN, KRIPKE. I love how Jared's accent gets thicker when Sam's upset.

Stage 3: Bargaining. Maybe that should've been the title. She doesn't get it, does she? I love that they knew that Dean should bring up Sam before his father, that his concern for Sam should be first in his mind.

John knows, but nobody's going to tell us. *facepalm*

Yeah, Dean, just stand there looking stupid while black stuff that kinda sorta resembles the Big Bad goes all floaty into the reaper's mouth. Nice.

Dean doesn't remember? Well, that kinda blows. Hee, John called Dean dude. Aww, Sammy, I get that you're upset, but drop it already. I love how Sam gets all worried when John doesn't wanna argue, LOL.
Okay, this almost has *me* tearing up. John/Dean bonding with crying and hand-shouldering is...guh. Acknowledging everything Dean did, everything we've been talking about in fandom for so long. So of course Dean thinks he's possessed. Did he tell him about Sam, or the deal, or both, or something else entirely??

The shot of Sam dropping the coffee and running in to help his father is a really beautiful shot.

Okay! In summary: some really lovely shots, pretty boys, and slightly more subtle writing than last season - at least they're not literally bashing us over the head with is. There were a few lovely scenes, and the boys were all just incredible, really pulling their weight. It was nice to see an episode about the family dramas more than the ghost-of-the-week...even if it was a little corny and puppet-y in its 'real form.' Also, MARSHALL RANSE = DEMON was the awesomest thing ever. And Jensen looked SO. GOOD.

The only negative thing I have to say is that I felt that the setting up of the mysteries and the cliffhangering was a little forced. It's like the writers were trying to be clever by NOT revealing things in conversations - avoiding what we wanted to know, cutting away early, inaudible dialogue. It was a little too much, you know? I felt it could've been done better. That's all the negative I have to say, though, otherwise I loved it!

There was a running theme with the boys' (Bobby, too) using looks to convey what was really going on. The looks betrayed the dialogue and the scene. Bobby KNEW. Sam KNEW Dean was in the room. John KNEW what Sam's place is. Dean? That look, the quiet, it was a look of understanding and acceptance. He would NOT have gone quietly and let John die for him. He would NOT have stayed quiet when death of any kind was on the line. There is more to it. The look betrayed the scene.

Am I making sense? Just watched it 20 minutes ago after three hours sleep.

I have a feeling that John wasn't telling Dean about that, but about Sam. So Dean would think that his opening up was precipitated by something else. No, wait, doesn't that mean rain?

The ONLY motivation for telling Dean about Sam would be to carry on the secret...to make Dean carry on the work with the knowledge of Sam's place...why reveal if death weren't on the line? It's a secret you only reveal if you alone carry it and you know your time is short. Dean should have known that. The conversation just before. He was already scared. He knew. There was too much finality in John's words. I can forgive him for not recognizing Tessa's motivations before the reveal, but him not guessing it was leading to John's death? Not happening. He knew. I believe John may have said something about Sam, but there HAD to be some reassurance or an ORDER from John in that whisper.

Why would he need to keep it low? So the CD wouldn't hear? Which may fall on the side of order from John.

I can't make this thought coherent, so I am sorry. I hope I am making a little sense, at least.

That's Kripke's motivation. What is John's? How is it furthering the story to keep it low? Audience aside, there is no reason to make it a secret. It doesn't make sense. Unless he were trying to keep something from the demon.

I feel your pain about the "I'm supposed to be concentrating right now but GODDAMMIT Disembodied Dean is distracting me!" Afterwards i was sad about Daddy but all i could think about was Dean running around in that flimsy little shirt that showed off all his bulging muscles... and wishing that he was wearing one of those hospital gowns so we MAYBE we could've caught a glimpse of his nice, tight ass.
