Random Supernatural note: Mary died on the exact day
tuathe_de was born, thirteen days before I was born.
Another note: in pretty much every CW RPS fic I've read involving Christian Kane he calls Jensen 'Jenny', but nobody else is allowed to. Was there some sort of hive mind decision that this is the way things are? As far as I can tell there's no canonical evidence.
Speaking of which:

Tell me that's not the hottest thing you've seen all day. Steve Carlson and Christian Kane. Thanks to
starsouls1013. They look so alike...like Chris is hitting on himself. But no, that's more up Jared Leto's alley.
goldie_gal's Music of Supernatural and
sargraf's Catalogue of Supernatural Boy Touching are the best things ever. Download a Steve Carlson song that Jensen Ackles sings backup on here.
I am so amused by the use of 'Don't Fear the Reaper' and 'I'm Burning for You' by Blue Oyster Cult in episodes of Supernatural. Ah, subtlety, how your touch is missed.
Gorgeous Firefly icons here.
Apparently they're going to sell new versions of Lord of the Rings this year with all-new extra features. I remember way back when the last film was released they said they would release the blooper reel this year. Well, if it's true I'm buying them. Another article and one here.

grrliz's fantastic design here, at a code generator made by
kunzite1. SO much better than LJ's design, though I would have to edit my info a fair bit.
Today I watched Rumble Fish
Shares a writer, director and two actors with The Outsiders, released in the same damn year even, and while I think Rumble Fish is a better and more cohesive film, it's still got a lot of problems. I kind of feel like if Coppola had just made one film (preferably of The Outsiders because I liked the story better) and concentrated on it more, it would've been fantastic. Or something.
The tagline for the film kept repeating in my head as I watched it:
Rusty James can't live up to his brother's reputation. His brother can't live it down.
Not only a catchy tagline but a remarkably good summary of the film. Rusty James is a fairly dreamy, naive 17 year old, and his big brother is the legendary Motorcycle Boy, whose name is tagged in graffiti all over the city. Rusty James longs for the good old days of rumbles and gangs, but isn't nearly as smart as his big brother. He's also a lot sweeter. The fact is there's not a huge amount of story here - the film is more of a character study, essentially. It's shot magnificently, mostly in black and white. The exception is the 'rumble fish' - the name Rusty James gives to Siamese fighting fish - and a small scene at the end. I was surprised to discover that the cinematographer was the same guy as The Outsiders, too, because I thought this was shot so well and the other needed work. Very strange. Much better soundtrack than The Outsiders had, too.
The perspective of the film is odd, too - the strange sound quality and lack of colour reflect Motorcycle Boy's colour-blindness and slight deafness, the camera wanders and shifts to give the film a constant sense of menace, and Motorcycle Boy gives the occasional deep 'insight' - yet this is a film about Rusty James, and how he sees his legend of a brother.
Anyway, once again cannot fault the performers - Matt Dillon, Mickey Rourke and Dennis Hopper play the central family and are all stellar, and the supporting cast includes a very young Nicolas Cage, Lawrence Fishburn and Chris Penn. Diane Lane rounds out the group, in another small supporting role. Coppola must be a fantastic actor's director.
So I'm giving this one 7 out of 10, and buying the two-disc edition of The Outsiders. That movie makes me want to like it, and besides, I want to know more about Sodapop. I'm going to look around in bookstores here for the novel, too.

I don't think they should have gone so short with it. Or if they did, stick to the character and keep it all bed-head.
And now I'm dying for Order of the Pheonix...as it was my favorite of the books. I may squee myself to death in anticpation.

Funny, I haven't come across this. One of the first SPN RPS fics I read had Jared refer to Jensen as 'Jenny' and I swear it took me a good 10 minutes to figure out who Jenny was. But I've seen many different characters call him Jenny, I'm sure. Mostly Chris, Jared and Rosey.
'Don't fear the Reaper' used to crack me up because everytime I heard it, I'd immediately go "More cowbell!" Now, post-"Faith" it just freaks me out. Which I suppose is better than laughing hysterically, but not by much.
