AM I the only one on the planet that doesn't like the new BSG. As much as she's hot and She is the most incredibly attractive person in the cast, Starbuck is so not a girl for me. I now it's cliche and corny and outdated and all the rest of it, but the only BSG for me is the original.

So far I've been unable to watch an episode of the new BSG from start to finish. I think, from what I've watched so far, that the writing is great and the casting is spot on, but my 20-year-old love for the original still makes me cringe whenever I see the new version. *shrugs* I think I'd probably feel differently if they had given different names to the characters from the new version, given that they're different people and this is not a remake of the original series. Tough and sexy (and well-written) as she might be, every time I see girl!Starbuck I run to my DVD of the original's pilot and ask boy!Starbuck for forgiveness...

I didn't even mean in terms of drool potential. Believe it or not (lol), I actually love Helo as a character. I didn't pay that much attention to him at first, but the combination punch of his looks and his sweet, romantic nature kind of took me down at some point in the first season.

To be fair though I hadn't seen the original BSG before I saw the new version. I watched a couple of episodes and had trouble with taking it seriously, so I stopped. One of the really great things about the new version that the old one lacked is a sense of real gender equality. I liked the original Starbuck, though.

Well, since I associate hotness and drool potential with the combination of good looks and interesting (and well-written, when it comes to characters) personality I completely understand what you mean about what attracted you to Halo. Even though Dirk Benedict was a cutie, it's Starbuck's cheeky personality that appealed to me even more than his looks. Plus there's the natural chemistry between Starbuck and Apollo - if I were to write fics from that fandom, those two would make the stories write themselves...

Oh, I completely understand. I know a lot of other fans of the new version that don't watch the original for that same reason, while fans of the original (like myself) don't really feel comfortable with the new version because it feels so strange when compared to the old one. They have completely different vibes - which, in retrospect, I think works in favor of the new BSG by making it a show of its own instead of a remake or a reinterpretation.

Surprisingly enough, the change in the boomer character doesn't irritate me half as much as Starbuck does. Maybe it's just my love of the Original Starbuck and Apollo that is carrying over.

Yeah, I didn't have that much problem about Boomer's "sex change" as I had with Starbuck's, even though I was very fond of the original Boomer. It's just my childhood crush on Dirk Benedict (which is still strong and present) that makes me look at the new Starbuck in shock. That, and knowing that, even if Starbuck/Apollo would still be a pairing as interesting and chemistry-filled as in the original, it wouldn't be slash anymore.

Haha yeah, I didn't really think of that as a spoiler. I was relieved. It was funny - when I watched the miniseries, I was like HELLO HELO and then he went and acted all noble and said he'd stay. And then I was sad because I thought he wasn't a real character. But now I know he is and I am pleased :D

I think my flist generally only wins at the Lost and Firefly watching, actually, judging by the results of that poll. Though I get the feeling there are a few Veronica Mars fans not saying the cast is hot, which is just WRONG. Silly people. Though I like Lost and Veronica Mars more than BSG.

I didn't because it was on ridiculously late at night here, and it wasn't until the wonderful viennawaits posted the episodes for me to download that I got into it. I think it takes effort to see BSG in the first place, so it's harder to get into it. But it was my flist who said I should watch it, so now I'm trying to get others into it! Maybe I'll do an Entourage pimp post next, viewership for that show is just woeful and I love it as much as BSG. In totally different ways, of course.

It's really strange because upon my first viewing of BSG I wasn't the biggest Helo fan, I mean I liked him but I didn't love it. I rewatched it all while I made my mother watch for the first time and I positively fell in love with him.

I didn't fall for him until the end of the first season was drawing near and then I suddenly fell completely in love with him. I can't even remember which episode it was. He wasn't doing anything more interesting than running around Caprica escaping from Cylons with his Boomer, but I suddenly loved him.
