Zach was gay?!?! I didn't even see that one. Also, Soy milk makes you gay, and lawmakers in Nigeria are debating a bill that would ban same-sex marriage and any form of association among gays, even sharing a meal at a restaurant. While that last one is upsetting beyond all reason, there's a comment in the article that bothered me:
South Africa legalized gay marriages last month in fiercely debated legislation, making it the only country on the continent to do so. But the impetus was more a desire to stamp out all forms of discrimination in a reaction to apartheid than tolerance of gays, who are subject to prejudice and violence in South Africa.
Firstly, why the bill was passed is not as important as the fact that it was passed at all. If it's in the legislation of the country, that legitimises homosexuality in a very real and significant way, even if there's still a lot of problems in terms of actual acceptance of gays. Secondly, that's not really good reporting, that's just getting the facts to fit your thesis instead of acknowledging a few exceptions to the rule.

I always wonder how they plan to enforce these things. How do you determine if a same-sex pairing out for dinner is gay or if they're just friends or business associates or [whatever other types of people go out for dinner]. Are they seriously going to have Gay Dinner Police?
