LOL. The Barry Gibb Talk Show SNL gig. Justin Timberlake (who is actually funny, who knew?) and Jimmy Fallon. Cracked me up. Actually, you know what? Just watch his entire appearance via [livejournal.com profile] sinful_caesar, because he CRACKED ME UP. Seriously, he's funny!

Tonight I saw Highlander

Ahahaha. Ahahahhahahahaha. This was gloriously, amazingly so-bad-it's-good. I know there are fans out there, but seriously. Who in their right mind casts a Frenchman as a Scotsman and the most famous Scotsman opposite him as an Egyptian Spaniard?! The movie plays like an extended video clip for a Queen montage, and there isn't a single frame of the movie that can't be placed absolutely squarely in the 80's, from the score to the neon lighting to the love scenes to the soundtrack, film quality, Star Wars/Ghostbusters-lite SFX and even that classic 80's set piece, an action finale beneath a giant neon billboard. It's genius. I was transfixed for every moment of it. It jumps all over the place, giving back story where there's none needed and throwing in scenes for absolutely no reason. I think my favourite of these is MacLeod's drunken British duel. After he stumbles away, the guy he was duelling randomly turns to shoot his male servant who kept kissing him in the back. The scene is cut with a 'modern' 80's shot of a TV where a news anchor is saying 'This is the mood in New York City at the moment.' What, gay, British and shot in the back?!?!

The actual concept is intriguing enough, and Clancy Brown as the bad guy is a stroke of absolute genius. When he loses it there's an almost intoxicating lack of inhibition that's genuinely fascinating - the scene where he drives recklessly to Queen's cover of New York, New York is exhilerating and terrifying. In fact, the best scenes are just him and no Christopher Lambert, who is just terrible. How anyone could buy HIM as Scottish is beyond me, and he and the female lead have NO chemistry. Amazing.

I'm torn between 8 out of 10 and 2 out of 10. It has to be either end of the spectrum, though.

I remember going to rent movies with my grandma once like ten years ago and she picked up Highlander and said "This one has a guy with a kilt and a sword, I think your grandpa will like it." Then we turned it off because I think my grandma thought it was too violent/sexual for my thirteen year-old self.

I wept profuse tears when I first saw Justin on SNL three years ago or whenever it was. I actually made a layout featuring him in the omelette costume. :D

There's one sex scene with nudity, but it's like watching fish in a bucket.

IT WAS SO FUNNY. When did he get funny?!

He's always been funny! Or so I like to pretend. I feel bad for him sometimes because he's stuck in this popstar mould that he'll never get out of, save for a huge miracle, except he is actually a genuine talent. Hahaha, no, seriously, I mean that. :D

0_o I never thought I'd read the words 'Justin Timerlake' and 'really funny' in the same paragraph!?!

Is that the Barry Gibb Talk Show from a few years ago or from his recent stint as host? (I'm at work and have a crappy computer, so I'm not even going to bother trying to watch it now). That skit is one of my all-time favorites. I laughed so hard I cried when I first saw it. Justin was pretty hilarious in that whole episode, actually.

I miss Jimmy Fallon.

Justin was hilarious at his previous SNL appearance as well (as Jessica Simpson...some mascot for a diner...etc) Either the writers save the best for him, or Justin is really THAT funny.

The entire Highlander series, movies and the show, is one of my ultimate "GOD I FEEL SO HORRIBLE AS A PERSON FOR LIKING THIS" and guilty-as-all-get-out pleasures.

I'm with you 100% about the mis-casting of everything EXCEPT Clancy Brown.

LOL yeah I really enjoyed watching it, even though I knew it was terrible!

LOVE the KKBB icon.

You should also check out some eps of the Adrian Paul tv series on YouTube. They're "a recommended cheeseball hangout".

(I've watched KKBB like FIVE TIMES in the past six days. It has become a part of my psyche, no joke.)

And I quite love that icon as well. *TEE*

The Highlander film/television series is an extremely mixed bag. I'm mostly only in it for the Methos (and he doesn't even appear until mid-third-season of the TV series).
