Q: Earlier tonight, Chris said if Piz doesn't end up with Veronica, he'd like him to end up with Logan. [Note: This was from an interview I did with Lowell that will be going up next week] What do you think of that?
Dohring: Chris said that? Oh, that's kind of him.
OMG. OMG. I LOVE CHRIS LOWELL MORE THAN IT'S HUMANLY POSSIBLE. LOOOOOVE. And Jason's reaction cracks me up. He's like 'yes, I know, everybody loves me.'
[At this point Dohring's Veronica Mars costars Chris Lowell and Ryan Hansen happened to walk by, resulting in a very exuberant greeting between the three of them, and Hansen and Lowell letting Dohring know Guitar Hero could be played in another section of the party. As Lowell and Hansen left the room, Dohring yelled to them, "I love you!" before deadpanning, "I hate them" to those of us interviewing him. To be clear, he was clearly joking about the latter proclamation!]

Tonight I saw Pan's Labyrinth
I'm officially in love with two of the Mexican Power Three: Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron. Alfonso, as many of you know, is my favourite, but Guillermo del Toro proved with this movie that he has the same flair for visual inventiveness and storytelling. Every aspect of this movie is beautiful, which makes the violence that much more extreme and the harshness of the world more apparent. The music was lovely and mournful, and the fantasy had a lovely earthiness to it. The blend of special effects and more traditional methods worked wonders. The acting was good too, particularly Maribel Verdu as a freedom fighter and the little girl, Ivana Baquero.
I read a lot about this movie before I saw it, so I came at it very analytically with a lot to think about: the use of fantasy as a way to make sense of the world rather than escape from it, the different approaches to death and violence. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it definitely made me think, which I always enjoy.
The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the bugs. There were scenes I couldn't watch because of my bug fear.
