TRAILER!!!!!
So, you are all most fortunate that I have had the PoA trailer for about 10 hours already, because I was completely incomprehensible when I first saw it. My thoughts are behind the cut.
I'm gonna give a scene-by-scene rundown. Feel free to skip it if you are bored.
1. THe opening shot of the stopped Hogwarts Express was probably not the best shot to open with.
2. Already Cuaron's different style is coming into play here, with the kids at the bottom of the (very white) frame and the Shack just barely visible, yet still the main focus of the screen. Ron's (I think?) is already talking before he's in the frame, too. Very cool.
3. I loved the picture that was released of this shot and I love it in the movie. Ominous, atmospheric fun. I can see the Thestrals! *smort*
4. Gambon's voice is very different, but I think I'm really going to enjoy his portrayal of Dumbledore (as I've said before)--from what I've heard it's closer to book!Dumbledore, though no indication of this as yet.
5. Okay, okay, I know everybody else hates the weird toad choir, but I think it's cool. I came from a very big singing school, and am not surprised that Hogwarts would have a choir. Plus, that song they sing is AWESOME!!! This is where the new style really comes into play, because the lack of John Williams' huge, sensational (but brilliant) score is in complete opposition to Columbus' style. I love the mix of spooky and magical in the song, and the reference to Shakespeare, and the way it ties in--fantastic!! Plus the kids are really good and so into it.
6. The Knight Bus isn't exactly new, but all the screeching and Dan's reaction was cool.
7. HAH! Aunt Marge! Vernon yelling!! Very dark shot, though, oddly.
8. Everybody has said enough about the Draco flying paper swan scene. I think it's great, he's grown up a lot.
9. Not much to say about this or the close-up on the choir...I have no idea where the kids are, or what's with the Stonehenge thing. Nice expressive faces on the choir kids. Girl playing a drum and are the toads dancing?!
10. Oh. My. GODS!!!! Boggart!Snape in a dress is so funny (and he can really pull it off, oddly enough--sexeh!) I love how he strolls out in his usual manner and then we see Neville looking terrified and harried, with Lupin encouraging him (from this tiny section I'm starting to like Lupin already), and then he sort of staggers once the dress comes in. I love that you can see the slip at the bottom, too--and Gods but that's a BIG vulture! In the background, Seamus is looking scruffy. Dean's there too, and that's a LOT of students.
11. Another great scene. Sirius laughing maniacally from the news board is certainly scary, particularly if you thought he was a murderer. I like how he turns to yell at the people beside him, then at us through the camera. Lovely. More on Hogsmeade itself later.
12. Hermione and Ron look utterly, wonderfully petrified. I gotta give them props on their steadily improving acting ability (Dan too.) We can see their breath, which is interesting. Crookshanks is THE UGLIEST CAT EVER! I love him!! He's perfect. Shame we can't see any tail on him, though...
13. What is this scene? Can anyone tell me? Snape looks like he's just Lumosing his wand, but if that's what Harry's doing later, why is Snape's red? Is it like light sabers?!
14. This is cool, but kind of odd--don't know what he's doing there. That's not Hedwig flying past him either, which is interesting. It's a nice shot, though.
15. Is Sirius' arm cut? I love how he snaps his head to look at the camera with those dark, dead eyes. Cool.
16. They mussed his hair! And wow, he's looking older. The Leaky Cauldron is looking spiffy.
17. To me, it looks like Harry's saying something and trying to get *away* from Snape in this picture. Still, protective!Snape should be interesting.
18. Ooooh. More oooh. The Shack looks run-down and dusty but still slightly lived-in, and I love the mirror in the background. It's bigger than I thought. Sirius is obviously pointing to Pettigrew, and this is the best shot of him I've seen yet. He's kind of wild-eyed, it's terrific.
19. Obviously just at 4 Privet Drive, trying to do his homework under the bedsheets...though he looks oddly frightened of his own wand. (hehe, frightened of his own...nevermind.)
20. Again, the Stonehenge thing. Harry and Hermione appear to be alone, so fleeing dementors? But in daylight?!
21. Again with the daylight, I wonder what Hermione's scared of.
22. Probably just Hagrid trying to calm Buckbeak. I like him in teacher!mode, it's cool.
23. Yes, he's doing magic without a wand. I'm sure he's perfectly capable of it, he is Dumbledore after all. Nice trick, but not very exciting or relevant...probably just to get another shot of new!Dumbledore in there.
24. Hogsmeade is sort of Scandinavian-looking or something, the very pointed rooves and cluttered feeling is cool and old-fashioned. Luff.
25. McGonagall, and I believe this is a scene we've seen in pictures, when the kids are going to Hogsmeade and she selects Harry out of them. Nice to see her in the trailer.
26. I don't know what or where this is, it almost looks like Dumbledore's office. Nice candles in the background!
27. Oooooooh. Sooooooo creepy. Those things are massive, too.Just as scary as Ringwraith feet.
28. There is a boy in the choir in the front row who screw up his face one hell of a lot.
I got an overall sensation of darkness, moodiness, and definitely an older feel from this trailer. Also, the camera didn't seem to want to stay still. It was just amazing, I know this is going to be my favourite of all the movies. I swear I nearly had a spontaneous orgasm when I first saw it through! I think every one of my favourite scenes (except winning the Quidditch cup which won't be the same without Oliver Wood anyway) were in there. I just love it. Cuaron, I am ready and willing to have your babies now.
LOL lots of ramblings in there. On the upside, should prepare me for my Film exam (analysing scenes) next week. Next bit of news--I'm a paid user now!!! Only with 15 icons, but I LOVE them. Also, I need someone to teach me how to make my own layout! Anyone, please??
SG1 was interesting. I like how Daniel got his way, but I couldn't see that happening in real life. Also, he was very hot in this episode.

Do you check your e-mail/friendslist first thing every day? Before breakfast? Before going to the bathroom? In the middle of the night as you walk back from the bathroom?
First thing (after removing myself from bed) I turn on the computer *then* check my email and friendslist...lol. Not in the middle of the night walking back from the bathroom, though, because it takes about 5 minutes to turn on and isn't worth it.
How about your friends list? Do you jump at the sight of the pretty flashing icon from Semagic that tells you someone's posted?
I don't have that. I just refresh a lot when I'm online. Besides the list's so long anyway that by the time I get to the first page there's usually loads more to read.
How many times a week do you read fanfiction? If you're a writer, how often do you sit down to write? Do you carry a notebook so you can write down story ideas while you are out on the town? How about when you're at work?
I read it every time I go through my friend's list, because there's usually new fics there. I don't sit down to write, I just write when I feel like it. I write at uni and such.
Do you ever get so desperate for fanfiction you'll read in fandoms you know little or nothing about? Even if the story isn't that good?
To the first part, yes--I've already started reading in The OC, which isn't even on TV here. Second part, no. I don't read crap.
Do you ever spend more than you can really afford on fannish things?
Sometimes, if I see a Harry Potter figure I can't live without, or something. I was so going to in order to go to Best Of Both Worlds and see Craig Parker, before I got sick.
Do you either go to a con every year or desperately wish you could?
