Okay, here's that final Chris spam I've been promising forever. All caps once again from Chris Lowell Online Gallery - these spams would not have been made without [livejournal.com profile] dekolette's fantastic site.

Grey's Anatomy 3.22 & 3.23: 'The Other Side of This Life'
AKA Dell Turns Sexual Politics On Its Head

When we first meet Dell, he is answering phones as a receptionist at a private doctor's office with predominantly female doctors.

He has a flirtatious relationship with Naomi, one of the doctors who is (according to the actress's IMDb page) 13 years his senior.

He's also really, really pretty. Being Chris Lowell and all.

We've come to this in the show through Dr. Addison Montgomery, formerly of Grey's. I just wanted an excuse to post a cap of the two of them together.

So far, Dell pretty much serves as a receptionist and object of female lust. Got it? Good!

The next time we see Dell, he is the cute boy behind the desk 'tracking Naomi with his eyes.'

'Oooh, cute boy wants Naomi!'

Naomi comes over to give Dell a strict talking to about how she won't allow him to watch her like that

which is pretty much the least effective talking to ever.

'You can't make rules about my eyes!'

Now, we get to the really important scene.

The shirtless scene.

Filmed in luxurious slow motion

all soft and glowy

with a kickin' sexy rock-style song playing in the background sung by a girl.

We've seen this shot before.

It's in dozens of movies and countless TV shows.

The camera focuses on his body as he moves

skin rippling across his muscles

and then poses in one positon

in order that everyone watching can get an even better look.

He's perfectly well aware that they're watching, too.

He stands still for a moment

pretending to rub at some non-existent mark on his surfboard

then 'notices' the three rich, attractive older ladies watching him shamelessly

and flashes them a smile.

The only difference between this scene and a hundred other scenes of a hot body in a bikini being paraded around for the viewing pleasure of others

is that the genders are reversed.

Usually the camera is languidly following a female form.

Grey's Anatomy, for all its post-feminist criticism and sexual freedom, has never been this bold in complete gender role reversal.

See how I broke up that critical analysis with pretty caps of Chris with his shirt off? Aren't I a nice educational poster?

As Dell takes his leave (and what a leave it is, too)

the ladies inform us that 'there's another showing in an hour, and it's wet.'

Now that the sexual objectification of Dell is over, we can move into the real plot.

Having waited until everybody else has left the building, Dell approaches Naomi in her office

and asks her if he wants to go to dinner with him.

When she declines, he gives her his best Disapproving Mom Stance. See, Piz fans, there is a reason to watch this new show!

He tells her that, yes, he's asking her on a date

and then laughs when she says he can't ask her out on a date. 'Yes I can, I asked!'

He looks temporarily befuddled when Naomi starts babbling about foetuses, but must think it's cute or something

because he brings out The Graduate defense. 'Well coo coo ca choo, Mrs. Robinson.'

He leans in, waiting for an answer

hoping

and is SHOT DOWN. Oooh, burn. DENIED.

However, being the young, sexually voracious , coy little thing he is

he hasn't given up hope yet

and is left marveling at the wonders of a real woman.

I am entranced by the way the show is playing this character as the absolute stereotype of a young, sexy, voracious receptionist who is shamelessly parading his body for the doctors and working damn hard to get into the pants of an older doctor who is, as far as I know, still married at this point (though separated or...divorcing...I haven't seen the other parts of the episode yet.) If Dell was a female character on a show full of male doctors who are in their 30s and 40s, we'd all be having a fit. I've been saying for a while, though, that I don't so much mind the sexual objectification of women so long as we can sexually objectify men in the same way, and that's exactly what this show is doing. I'm also kind of thrilled that the person who's been cast in this role is Chris Lowell, who is now pretty much my favourite actor on television, someone who I've already discovered is pretty much the hottest thing on two legs. I don't watch Grey's Anatomy anymore, but this? Is going to be AWESOME.

By the way, for anyone interested, I've updated the Ultimate Boykissing Spam with Will Ferrell & Sacha Baron Cohen, Gee & Frankie, boys from McFly, Lano & Woodley, The Chaser, Grunberg & David Anders, Skins and The Dreamers.

ETA: and you can access some music from Order of the Phoenix here.

Your taste is impecable....especially with the one on the left...I LOVE him in 4400!!

sigh and oh so very satisfied...*giggle*

I have to admit I was a bit annoyed that Dell's character seemed to be there merely for sex appeal, but like you said, it's a nice change to see a male being objectified in such a way when there are so many shows that simply objectify women.

And you know, he's pretty...

I'm so disappointed because they didn't show us the "wet" showing :p

Scrubs has been doing the equal male/female nudity for years :p

Not that im complaining...hehe Dell was "waxing his surfboard" (near enough) for the ladies ;)

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

There's a few of movies and shows that have equal male/female nudity, but what's so interesting about this one is that it's specifically putting a man in the female sex object role.

From: [identity profile] digital-med.livejournal.com

I know, or at least I think I know, of the gender roles being reversed and men being the object of women's views.

Although I've just woken up and my mind is blurgh. I think Harrison Ford was one in a film years ago, like 30 years ago. I'll get back to you ;)

(This isn't to say I agree with you about it nor am I trying to belittle your point. I do find it interesting)

I LOVE IT!

And it's already been said, but why tease us with the prospect of a wet showing but not actually show it?? it just doesn't seem fair!!

From: [identity profile] entwashian.livejournal.com

Your comments on the show remind me of a review of it that had me seeing RED. It basically said that the show was "degrading" to women, because every single female character on the show was "sex obsessed."

Dude, it's the 21st century. It's okay for women to like sex! And really, every single character on the show is sex-obsessed, not just the females, so why did the reviewer single out the women? ::grumble grumble::

Also, other than the gorgeous Planet Earth series, I have never been more grateful to have a TV program coming in in HD, than when I saw this.

i am so educated that i need to turn the fan on.

he is so hot. so so hot.

he makes an awesome sex object.

Why do I keep re-imagining this with Dominic Monaghan in the role...? *S*

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

As much as I love Dom, I don't think he'd work in the role. The casting director's a genius; Chris has that sweet, non-threatening, thinking woman's boy-next-door kind of sexuality - exactly the kind of thing casting directors are usually looking for in female characters of the same kind. I am geeking out so much over this role, lol.

It IS fun comparing how it gets played by a guy vs. a girl... *G*

From: [identity profile] delcj.livejournal.com

what _was_ the kickin' sexy rock-style song in the background sung by a girl? i can't think about background music while Chris Lowell is half-naked. :)

chris lowell = sexual object? I liiiikeeee....

From: [identity profile] famous-divaxo.livejournal.com

I love this part "there's another showing in an hour, and it's wet." Where was that showing btw? haha
Thanks again for doing a pic spam!!
