Okay, really, Zac Efron detractors (or people who don't care either way, love him, or just like musicals in general) watch this Hairspray clip. I've watched it like 20 times now. I don't know what the High School Musical idiots were thinking when they mixed Zac's voice with Drew Seeley's for that movie. Drew replaced Zac in the HSM concert tour and has all the charisma of a wet dishrag (but it was worth watching the concert just to see Lucas Grabeel shaking those gay little hips) and apparently they mixed the voices because they wanted a higher voice to play against Vanessa Hudgens. Having heard Zac sing with his own voice on the Hairspray soundtrack and the two new HSM songs and I swear he's a hell of a lot better than Drew fucking Seeley. It seems like contrary to everyone else, Zac got the short end of the stick with HSM. I'm just hoping people will see him in Hairspray and appreciate that the kid's got talent. He plays up the sweet jock thing in HSM but damn if he hasn't grown up in this clip, all hip-swinging with those wonderfully suggestive lyrics. He's light years away from those dorky HSM moves (which I'm still fond of, don't get me wrong, but this shows range. And sex appeal for people over 16.) Plus he was young!Simon Tam on Firefly as a kid, which, you know, automatic cool points. Oh Zac Efron, shake those hips in MY direction.

James Marsden cracks me up in that video clip too. He's not too bad on the soundtrack, who knew he could sing? I really want to see this movie!

Also, it appears that Jo has publicly said a few times that Petunia won't do magic. Oh well, I'm down to one out-there-ish theory about Deathly Hallows and a few that are more likely to come true. I actually don't really like posting theories about what will happen. I like discussing the books and such, but posting a list of predictions isn't really something I want to do, and I get nervous every time I see one of those 'WHO DIES?' polls.

Pretty Supernatural icons if anyone wants.

It's good they're using his voice now in Hairspray. Are they keeping only his voice in HSM2? I'm not going t watch Hairspray like ever, but I AM interested in HMS2 like WHOA.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Yeah, they are using his voice in High School Musical 2. To be fair, the producers had no idea HSM was going to be as huge as it is; they thought they were making just another shitty DCOM. It has all the production values of a DCOM and not a lot of room to stretch out acting or performing wings.

Still, the stunt casting of Ashley Tisdale shows up a couple of issues; the way Lucas had to hold himself back a LOT to make her look better, and how much worse her voice and dancing skills were than everyone else's.

LOL our icons match ♥

Oh, good. Haha, I know. It's like they had no idea the monster they were creating!

Oh, really? You know more stuff about this than I do, and that's news to me. I just don't really like Ashley because she's kind of a bitch. She wasn't very nice when she came here with the tour, she was a bit of a diva. The black girl, I forget her name, was soooo cute and funny and adorable, everybody loved her.

And now our icons can make out! Hahaha.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

LOL Monique drives me insane with all her sugary sweetness, but she does seem like a nice kid. I can image Tisdale being a bitch, though. Were they the only ones who went?

Sirius/Remus FTW.

From: [identity profile] mellafe.livejournal.com

No, the whole bunch came over. The ones who talked more at the press conference were Monique, Lucas and C.Blue. They were really nice, answered all the questions and laughed a lot. The rest (Ashley and Vanessa) sat there and looked pretty, but didn't really answer any questions with more than a few words.

OTP!

Vanessa bugs the shit out of me in the movie, but she didn't bother me as much in the behind the scenes stuff. Tisdale just doesn't seem to care about anything.

I ♥ Lucas and Corbin though. Every time I see Corbin I call him the inappropriately aged hottie, and Lucas cracks me up.

James Marsden sings really well! I remember seeing him on Ally McBeal from eons ago and they always made him sing Sinatra and Elvis if I remember correctly. There are probably a few videos floating about on youtube.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Ahh, I didn't know he was on Ally McBeal; never really watched it.

I had no clue that was Zac in Firefly! That's kind of neat!

As for James, he was on the show Second Noah for the 5 minutes that it aired and it one of the eps he picks up a guitar and sings a sweet little song to his son. omg. I recently refound this song and have all kind of love for it and him!

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I actually discovered it for myself re-watching Firefly after I'd seen High School Musical. Since I love Simon I was really excited :D

LOL seems everyone knew Marsden could sing except me.

ZAC!

I have watched that clip about as many times, and I have found a new obsession. Always thought he was cute, had NO idea how talented he was.

And James! When he was on Second Noah, in '96 I think? he had a scene where he sang and played the guitar and he was actually quite good. He's adorable in that clip.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

I can't stop watching. It's like the hips and the hair and that little...windmill arm movement are mesmerising me. I also freaked out when I noticed what the lyrics were actually saying.

I just watched the Second Noah clip where he sings to Joey Lauren Adams; lovely singing voice (though looking and sounding very 90's boyband) and great taste in women :D

Yeah, the way I heard it was Zac's voice wasn't tenor enough, he was too low and so they mixed it, and for some songs only used Drew's. From the little that he really did sing (on the balcony, into to Breaking Free) I thought he was a crappt singer, really nasally, but then I saw that and was like WHOA WOAH.

OMG I saw him on Firefly and SQUEED a lot.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

The Breaking Free on the balcony thing was somewhat unfair. He was probably trying to sing it the way it sounded for the rest of the movie, and he had no music; adding to that the fact that they probably only took a couple of takes and it's not the greatest example of his singing talent.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Listening to the songs again, it also sounds like it's mostly Zac on the What I've Been Looking For reprise; it's a lot lower and more grounded than Drew Seeley's voice. It's definitely mixed on Start of Something New, but it sounds like once they get into the fun part of Breaking Free Zac's voice is gone completely.

I'm spending way too much time on this. I should be in bed.

Wait I might be lost on this whole thing. THAT WASNT ZAC SINGING IN HSM? And he didn't even go on tour? So....confused.

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

He did sing, but his voice was mixed with Drew Seeley's, and a few times (Getcha Head in the Game, for example) they only used Drew's voice. He didn't go on tour, of course, because he was shooting Hairspray.

Didn't James Marsden sing in "Ally McBeal"??? I kind of remember him singing at the club.

Ahaha, man, I had NO IDEA that was him in Firefly! So tiny and cute :)

I still call Zac Efron "baby Simon!" by default *g* I had heard about High School Musical really early because he was going to be in it. And then it exploded! Craziness.

I'm gonna see Hairspray this Friday, hopefully - it looks really good!

james marsden is adorable in that vid! i am dying to see that movie. and now i am temtped to see high school musical.

I took my 11 yr old daughter to see the HSM Concert and Lucas Grabeel was pretty much the MC. I haven't watched the movie of the concert, but I imagine it was probably exactly the same as the concert that I saw live. Do you think that Lucas is gay, or just playing Ryan as gay?

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Yeah, Lucas was the MC for all the concerts. Personally, I would be extremely surprised if he was straight, he gives off a seriously gay vibe in most interviews and such. That kid's really talented too, I adore him.

From: [identity profile] makkabee.livejournal.com

His voice is okay -- nothing spectacular. It scares me a little that they didn't think it was high enough for High School Musical.

He's not really conventionally pretty enough to be Link Larkin either. Ten years ago Marsden would have been perfect for the role. Oh, well. I'm still really looking forward to the film. It opens Friday, yes?

From: [identity profile] green-queen.livejournal.com

Oh, I love him. And I don't think you'll find many teenage girls complaining about his looks either.

I don't know when it opens in the States, it opens September 14 here.
