I have this Gender Studies course that's called 'Cinema in Southeast Asia.' So far, we already have two different areas of study. Today I went to a lecture that was essentially an hour and a half of the history and geography of the Philippines. This is a teacher I'm not overly fond of and who I believe is not overly fond of me, but seriously woman, you can't just teach a course on Southeast Asia because you feel like it and say whatever you like. Not only that, but we then watched Manila by Night

Or, as I like to call it, interchangeable characters screwing everybody until a tacked-on ending. It took me until halfway through the movie to figure out who was who, and I've already forgotten most of their names. I lost track of who was having sex with whom, and that's all the movie was - a montage of people having sex, with the occasional plot. Every scene felt dragged out, everybody said 'I love you' every five seconds before going off to screw someone else, and we didn't even get any decent sex scenes. Granted, it did have some gay, but by the end of the film everyone gay was redeemed or punished (for the government's sake, I assume.) The actors were actually very good (when you could see them) and it explored a side of the Philippines that was hidden before (the seedy underbelly that matches nearly every other city, ever) but I was still bored, confused and frustrated for 90% of the time. A few well-developed characters snuck in to actually affect me by the time their story played out.

I forgot to mention this yesterday, but I found out Ten's bumping Torchwood to midnight Wednesdays. I had a feeling this would happen. I don't understand why Ten insists on picking up shows like Veronica Mars and Torchwood only to then fuck with the schedule when they don't get ratings. Did they really think they would? I mean, Doctor Who gets great ratings for ABC, but good ABC ratings are piss-poor network ratings. Why didn't they just let ABC have Torchwood?

For that enormous portion of my flist just getting into Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I made a big Buffy picspam earlier this year for Buffy's tenth birthday. The best part is that it's organised by season, so you can go up to the season you're watching and stop there without being spoiled :) Also, if you're looking for icons, my favourite Buffy icon maker is thirdhex.

LiveJournal users fight erotic 'Harry Potter' deletions. I wasn't aware one of the banned had a lifetime account, they should really refund her. Also, the burr86 thing is fucking tacky.

In similarly LJ-related news, Brad Fitzpatrick jumps ship. He clarified...somewhere else...that it was a personal choice, but it still looks bad.

A new Heroes cast member has just been upgraded to regular status already; you Alias fangirls are going to flip out over this one.

Gerard Way wants you boys to TAKE OFF YOUR FUCKING SHIRTS! I can't wait to see them. I hope they stay as gay as they've been recently all year.

I haven't seen Manila By Night yet, but its director usually has a good track record. You're actually lucky (sort of) that you got to watch it: A lof us here in the Philippines can't get to watch our old movies because they're often stored in some other country. XD
